I imported a engine a few years ago.... Euro 5 cyl VW high output TDI diesel for use in a boat. Owning a boatyard it was a pretty easy deal. That said I did have to "prove" it was for a boat and sign a couple papers if i recall stating the use etc.

It really was for a boat project that didn't end up happening so it's sitting here in my shop......

We aren't talking engines...(well other than kyle)

The everyday guy buying a water pump for a third of the cost for what they sell here is not going to have any problems.

Duty on the console was based on a error by my import guy here. Something about it being a re-sale item

The engine import thing has been beat to death, thanks for re-iterating what PT and I have beens saying for a while. The reality of this is that those engines are coming in, plain and simple.

name me another way to get a td5

get creative.

small parts clear daily and without issues. As I said earlier, I have been doing it for high end bike equipment which is a fraction of the price, bike sites have been doing this for awhile.

some places will even mark some smaller packages as gift so that it clears customs easier.

I had a 4.6 seized until I proved it was fundamentally similar to the original engine in the vehicle. cost me a small fortune and was the one single item that put me into the category where I had to become completely legit, register and pay the bond.

As for shipping engines, you might be surprised at just how inexpensive it is. It cost me more to have a diesel shipped from New York than it did to have a V8 shipped from the UK. I've been pleasantly surprised to find my shipping expenses for second day air to be acceptable. I don't understand how it costs the same or less for second-day shipping from the UK as regular UPS in the US.

I bought a new 4.6 from RPI about a year and a half ago. No problems getting it through, and I if I remember right it was less than 200 bucks to have it shipped FedEx freight.
