My C/E light has been on for the last several weeks. The rig has been running fine if not better than normal. I got in and was backing out of the drive and noticed the light was OFF. Can the light or codes clear after so many cycles of the key switch? I know they can in some vehicles. Thanks for the info as usual.

Scott,

You don't mention what the year of the Disco is, and what your milage is.

The Check Engine light can go on for many reasons, including O2 sensors, blown fuses, etc..

If it is out don't worry about it. If you're really worried, you could stop by Napa or some other auto shop and try to borrow their ODBII reader and pull the codes.

Cheers
Victor

Victor, thanks I should have put it in there. '97 w/94K on the ticker. I have taken it to one of those places to read the code but they did not read any.

Let me add to Paul.

GEMS will retain in memory a code for 50 WARM UP CYCLES..... A warm up cycle is defined as a start on a cold engine, brought to operating temperature, then back to cold.

If you turned the key on and off 50 times your code is NOT going to clear.

That's what I meant by stop/start cycles. In fact, it could probably be extended to include various drive cycles needing to be satisfied as well.

Chris, thanks for adding to this. Are you saying that the light will go out and the code will clear but is retained in the memory as an event type thing or is it removed all together untill it happens again. Or if the fault is not given for the 50 cycles it will clear the code on its own? The reason I ask this is because I am due for inspection really soon and was worried about the C/E light.

Thanks again guys.
