Does any one know what interior the Camel Trophy D1s had? Was it carpet on the floors or did they have a rubber matt set? I would like to pull out my carpet but was looking for alternatives to put down in its place.

The moment you pull the carpet out is the moment you've given up on your Disco. It'll turn to trash really quickly. You'll start disrespecting it and not thinking it's a nice vehicle anymore. Then you'll stop caring about banging the body panels. Next thing you know your once pride and joy is a total piece of crap and has no chance of every maintaining its dignity.

My buddy took out the carpet in his Wrangler after it got moldy from leaving the top down so much. Damn did that transmission get hot on your feet. I would highly suggest against it

D1 carpet has to be some of the easiest to clean automotive carpet in existence. You can pull it out, rinse it with the hose, and let it air dry and it looks great. The padding however, is a royal bitch. Still, carpet with no insulation looks/fits terrible.

Anybody ever find some waterproof/non water absorbing replacement insulation?
I would think some closed cell foam, like a blue ThermaRest would work. Same type of stuff the pool noodles are made out of.

I pulled the carpet and padding out from just the floor in the front. I left the carpet/padding on the trans tunnel. I put down two rubber floor mats on each side and unless you look close you cant tell there's no carpet underneath. Noise and heat are not an issue with mine.

That is fact.

I had metal Floors in my 109 for a year and it was warn. I threw in some rubber matts and it is a bit better. I was looking to see if they made something like the exmoor acoustic matting that goes in series rovers and defenders. My carpet has a few holes / wear spots and I was looking to spruce it up. As far as giving up on the disco....... My 109 is my daily driver because of reliability issues with a disco that is 27 years younger. I try and love her... She is the cause of this relationship drama, not me!

I did the same on mine after the po soaked the front carpet in Canadian swamp water for a week. That is a smell you can not easily get rid of.

I've seen pictures of Eric in that truck. What makes you think swamp water is the source of the smell?

Here's what I did:

Remove carpet and pad since padding was soaked from leaky sunroofs...bad enough I had to POR-15 the floorboard.

Remove foam from hard rubber "top" of padding.

Purchase rubber anti-fatigue tiles from home depot (the kind you see in commercial kitchens, assembly stations, etc - black rubber with holes in it)

Cut out and assemble tiles to match hard rubber.

Install tiles, hard rubber and carpet.

Just as quiet/insulated as before, less stinky and able to air dry by itself.

Not saying it's an original idea, I read it somewhere.
