Let's keep this thing alive seeing as how it is camping season:

Lucero, 'Rebel, Rogues, and Sworn Brothers'

Gob Iron, 'Death songs for the Living'

Drive by Truckers, 'Gangstbilly' and 'Pizza Deliverance'

Wasn't camping but I took a little cruise in the Hunter this morning. Rolled with a little Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, good time.

Are you guys going to the Rally this year? I want to bring a laptop and portable drive and swap music collections! Yours appear to be spot-on.

i have not driven my 96 DI in 4 months and was happy to find some Josh Rouse "1972" in the CD player when i drove off in it yesterday. if you like Pete Yorn or Ryan Adams you would like this guy.
i'm sure some Blue Rodeo, Clem Snide, Golden Smog, Buddy Miller, Mason Jennings, The Push Stars and the Jayhawks was also close by.
that is the only truck with an upgraded head unit (Eclipse) that sounds 100% better than the OE ones.

National or MAR?

Garrett, after 4 months I'm surprised that the 96 didn't spit out some of that Mark Hunter from above in retribution for neglect!

that truck always........always fires right up on the first spin of the Mean Green starter. she's in semi retirement, but i hate to give it up. we've been through alot and the truck is still very tight and for the most part rust free. more than likely it will be replaced with a '99 DI next year.
i was hoping some Beastie Boys, Brass Monkey would start kickin' it in the CD player.

FUCK YEAH LUCERO. I never thought in a million years I would see their name on this site!!!!!!!

If you dig Lucero try the Devil Makes Three, DMT is a three piece out of Santa Cruz and they're soo bad ass it's crazy.

I saw Lucero last fall when they were in Reno in a tiny club with like ten people in it including the bar tenders, super sick! They played with Ricky Voltolato.

Off my Lucero rant,

Reverend Horton Heat
Super suckers
Any 70's new wave punk
All Hanks, 1,2,3
Any Johnny Cash
Murder city Devils
Dimu Borgir to scare anything un welcome that may be hanging around
I could go on forever.

How's the rest of it? At first I said WTF, but that's pretty cool.

Yeah, once you allow yourself to relax a bit with it, the growls really work with the classical style. The rest of the CD is great. Some bits are more focused on the heavy aspect of their style, but the whole thing is really a very inspired recording. I have played it for quite a few people, and nobody so far has really had a problem with it.

I do listen to a lot of symphonic metal, as well as proper classical music, but these guys have taken a different path with it, and it is a very refreshing change.

Cheers,

Kennith

I'm not a huge country fan, but while camping i pretty much stick with it. Shooter Jennings, Waylan Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard that kind a stuff. Fits great with the camp fire. But when it comes to backpacking, i'm not carrying the weight of my ipod, when i could just be carrying more whiskey instead.

I can't believe I saw the name "Reverend Horton Heat". I was into them in the early 90's and totally forgot about them. I need to go through my collection and find some Heat! Thanks!

WOW, it warms my heart to see this thread kept alive for almost 3 years running.

bout' time i add to it again:

ELLIOT SMITH: NEW MOON

...On May 8, 2007, Kill Rock Stars will release a double CD of music by Elliott Smith entitled New Moon. The album contains 24 songs recorded between 1994-1997, a prolific time in Smith's career, when he recorded his self-titled album and Either/Or (both also released by Kill Rock Stars)...
so not that this is "new" music, but it definitely takes me back.
it was over a decade ago that i, an angsty art student at the time, was turn on to Elliot Smith. After all these years, he's music still blows me away. many, many night were spent in the desert, w/ mind altered, swooning to the gently melodies of this brilliant musician.

to me, this IS camping music....enjoy!

keep it going

I'm in a Clash mood today, after having yesterday off and coming to work from 4pm to 1am for an emergency. Must have gotten up on the wrong side of the sleeping bag, I'll be Clashing it all day.

To post my real results though here it is:
If it's camping music and dinnertime I like some Nickelback, Nine Inch Nails, Prick, Thrill Kill Kult, or KMFDM.
If it's camping music and dusk, throw on the Eagles, Robert Earl Keen or even the "Riding with the King" album that Eric Clapton and BB King did a few years back.
For the night while camping and drinks are around, I like some more Eagles, RE Keen, or (like UK4x4 mentioned) Enigma, Cafe del Mar, Deep Forest is good.
