Can anyone identify a connector under/behind my glove box? (pic attached)

Hey everyone,

I've been slowly trying to work out the bugs on my new-to-me '95 Disco. I fixed a funky power window problem by resoldering the window lift ECM. :drink:

In the process, I noticed a connector in the same general area as the window lift ECM, right behind/underneath the glovebox. It was not connected, and connecting it didn't seem to make a difference that I could tell.

Can anyone tell me what it is for?

I am having some problems with my cruise control, tailgate subwoofers, and my electric radiator fan (condenser fan) - neither of these items actually work. Is there a chance that this unplugged connector could have something to do with these problems?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

ah:eek2: I will have to go look at the scamatic to be sure but I THINK that may be air bag related?

maybe passenger side air bag was unplugged so a small person or child could sit there...but like I said THINK...I will need to go look.

C'Mawn Thom! You know better than that! It's the serial mating connector, the diagnostic plug for a Lucas EMS truck. Reconnect it!

All SRS airbag related wiring is encased in bright yellow convolute tubing.

well I guess not!

like I said think..LOL

I saw the red plug lock and got worried...yes the yellow wire jacket comes on the wires but it can also be removed.

Ah, so that's the serial mating connector I've heard about. When I first got this Disco, it was running very poorly and the check engine light was on. After installing new injectors and spark plugs, I got frustrated looking for this connector and simply unplugged the Fuel Injection fuse to clear the code.

Strange thing - what would happen if I drove around with that connector unplugged like that? I didn't drive the Disco to work this morning (MINI Cooper is more fun for commuting), but I didn't notice a difference when the Disco was idling in the driveway w/ the connector on or off. :ack:
