Catalytic Converter Blew Apart

The front part of my driver side catalytic converter just came apart while on the highway. (The y pipe broke at the engine manifold and the front of th catalytic converter, (broken part was just hanging on by the O2 sensor.)). The rover is currently parked until the new catalytic converter comes in the mail. Could driving in this condition cause damage to the truck (just to the shop to get repaired) or should I have it towed? What is your opinion?

It will most likely trip codes. I would be careful as to what that hot exhaust is blowing on. Don't want to melt anything important or expensive.

If it was me I would drive it to the road and call AAA and have it towed to the place. 40 miles seems a long way with the exhaust detached at the manifold. But then I have AAA+ and it's a free tow for me.

Are you taking it to the dealer, or a muffler shop? If dealer, you'd better sit down before they tell you the price...actually you might want to lay down.

And, I agree that driving it is probably not the best idea.

If you need the y-pipe assembly, contact Will Tillery 434-251-9331.

I've seen Will state that he can't sell used catalytic converters and has to toss the y pipes. But my memory could be fussy on that.

All fixed for less than a thousand dollars. I was pretty impressed with the British Atlantic replacement Disco 2 Cat. It appears to be built a great deal better than the factory cat. My rover runs better now than it did with the factory cat.
