Where have you guys put your CB unit in your Disco? I spent an hour tonight trying to find just the right place and haven't yet found it.

Pics would really help!

On top of the dash. Use 2 short self drilling/tapping screws and go through the mat. If you ever change your mind th mat will cover up the holes.
There is about 1.5" of space between the top of dash and radio.

I put mine on the transmission tunnel, just to the right of where your right knee is. Some taller people might not like that but I never hit it and it keeps it right at hand. Could try the other side too but then you have to loose that awesome little garbage bag hanger.

X2. Same points I would have mentioned about having it in that spot. But, I don't know if a D2 console is wider or a different shape than my D1 console.

Good to hear you're installing a CB David! :applause:

Anyone put a CB/Ham whatever inside the cubby between the seats?
I remember seeing that someone did it but I don't remember who. Wasn't that helpful? You can thank me later.

I've only seen a few auto stereo heads that do this, but many aircraft nav & comm radios are designed in 2 pieces. The controls (faceplate) mount in the instrument panel while the radio itself is typically mounted on a rack elsewhere in the aircraft. This kind of setup, particularly for a 2nd radio like a CB would be great because of the limited space available within easy reach & view. Many stereo head units now have removable anti-theft faceplates. This could easily be modified with a home made wiring harness so that the radio portion could be relocated out of sight and the very light and thin faceplate mounted wherever it's convenient, probably with an adhesive strip if desired.
Maybe there's a CB that has this setup ?
If you're fairly competent with electrical stuff, you should be able to modify an existing CB in a similar manner by adding a few feet of appropriate gauge wire to the individual components on the faceplate (Vol, Sq, Signal Meter and Lights) and creating an "extension" harness so the large radio box could be put somewhere convenient and the faceplate mounted where you want...

I've been looking for something similar. Didn't Ho (or someone here) have one in his truck (though, I think it was a 10m setup)? I tried searching to no avail.

Closest I've found is the Cobra 75WX (which I have installed). Though, most of the radio is in the handset, and only a little box is remote... And I'm not crazy with the 75WX's performance, but haven't found a better alternative. The nice thing about the 75WX is I can disconnect the handset, and everything is hidden.

I have about the cheapest cobra that still has a gain control, works great though. Really useful in traffic too with the truckers.

I just did a Google search for "CB radio with removable faceplate" and found this:
