It costs about $450-$500 USD depending on the exchange rate... i paid something in between there...including shipping. it took about 2 weeks to arrive..

And it took me about 2.5 - 4 hours to install. it took me a week because i got it last Monday (4-6-09) and worked on it little by little after work each day...until friday (4-10-09)

You can get an ashcroft cable shifter from Lucky8 for less than half that price.

I have two friends down here with 04 Discovery and I have tried their cable shifters....

I prefer what I have ten times over...but that's me... =)

Yeah, D2's need more electronicky stuff. My cable works fine and doesn't need a power source, but to each his own ...

get into N to lock the CDL?

stop the car?

that kit looks like a complete cluster fawk...go run that thing over a weeks worth of washboards and see if all the little screws are still in place and tight.

there are just way to many parts to that mess, simple is king off road and always will be.

Heck you guys are sooo right. I have only had my Discovery for a few months and don't know much about off-roading.... seriously. Glad there are helpful sites like this one to inform novices like me of mods that are cheap and won't work. I'll let you guys know how long this window regulator motor lasts...

and about getting in N and stopping the car... for some reason (maybe being a novice) I thought the t-case shifter had to go through the neutral pos to lock the diff...silly me...and i personally stop the car when going into low... (I need to stop sniffing glue)

discomike has had the AMV for around 7 years and he hasn't had a problem with it. Not sure how rough he is with his discovery though.

Also, you cannot get Ashcroft cable shifters for 200. They are 400 from lucky 8. Basic math. It is not half the price of the AMV

Jupiter do you really think all those parts is a good way to do something as simple as turning a lever?

this guy thinks you need to put the trans in N to lock the CDL and thinks a stock unit cant be locked at speed, does that lend to him knowing what the best way to do this is?

locking a CDL is a simple task that can be handled cheap with a pretty fool proof swap to a D1 shifter or a bit more expensive with either a OEM 04 shifter or the new ashcroft unit that looks really nice and sound.

adding wires and switches and motors and set screws...etc etc is just STUPID.

If you dont get that you need to get out of off roading because that is the basis of it all.

KISS keep it simple stupid!

I have one of those ghetto handles. Eventually I'll get the 04 shifter but till now, just the handle. ;)
