so my exhaust is basically falling apart on my D2, and she is turning into a devoted trail truck, so I was thinking of going cherry bombs cat back on her. I want a rough sound, but was wondering what you think, I know its going to be loud, but I just want a siple install, and I don't care about stainless or lifetime warrenty, etc etc...

any thoughts?

When I hear a load annoying truck on the trail I think, "There's another asshole that's going to get this place shut down."
Higher decibels are just another stone for the greenies to throw at us. Do us all a favor and get something a little more reasonable for enjoying the great outdoors.
If you need someone to look at you, wheel nekid. That's what I do.

I had a flowmaster muffler on my truck for about a week. It's all the shop had in stock at the time. Fuckin annoying! It's not a muscle car, you know.

are they really THAT loud?? The guy doing it said "yeah, it will be loud, but not annoying loud", because I have two cats, and he is leaving alot of the plumbing, that it will actually bring it down in volume. I guess I will try it, and if its annoying, then remove it. I was just going to simplest route aside from full straight pipe

Cherry Bombs are indeed loud.

I have a flowmaster 40 series, but not by choice. I was sick of bending up the stock system, and the last time I ripped it off, I stoped by the first shop I saw and asked them to fix it. I figured it'd rust out soon enough, and I'd do something nicer.

Damn thing won't die. Though it really isn't all that loud, just throaty. Not much louder than stock, just deeper. I wouldn't go any louder at all on a trail, the outdoors need to remain fairly quiet. I've got a lot of bends behind it, so it stays pretty muted.

And no, there is no HP gain. Also, the less restriction you run, the more likely you are to swamp your exhaust. Cherry Bombs are a bad idea. The engines don't like those crazy free flow designs anyway. All you will do is make things worse.

Save your pennies week by week, and call Atlantic British, or Will Tillery or someone and get the real thing. If you want to keep it out of the way, do like I did and turn it sideways. You can't sit back with an air chisel and a tape measure and make a better exhaust system than the factory setup, so why not just buy the factory stuff or aftermarket designed for Rovers?

If you need something right now, this second, Flowmaster isn't all that loud, and a better choice than what you mentioned.

Cheers,

Kennith

ok, here's my angle: My D2 looks more like a mad max truck than a Discovery II, I have smashed body panels, I quick grab tool box being installed in my drivers side rear quarter window, rock dents and scratches everywhere, the entire passenger side was pushed in by a tree, it's at the point body-wise where chopping extra boddy panel materials off, and welding cages is actually on my "to-do" list before winter comes. So with that being said, returning her to her smooth roar that the factory exhauset had seems to me to be more silly than opening the exhaust up flow wise, and just slapping in something simply for exhaust note. Plus it matches the "look" of the truck in my opinion (Of course, I have never heard a D2 with a cherry bomb!!). So yeah, there is a slight element of "looks and sound" involved, But I will say that this is not the deciding factor, and I have no clue how obnoxious a cherry bomb on a D2 will sound. I just want a good solid deep and kinda lound "rumble". The spintech muffler has a good sound I think.

I don't know, i am open for different suggestions, but I don't think the guy will work with a spintech muffler, only the normal ones like magnaflo, Borla, etc etc...

thanks for the input BTW, I know nothing of exhaust

hey thanks kenneth, that was a good reply, you might have just swung me around. The factory muffler is actually OK it seems from appearance, the seams are rusting out though, so it will need it soon. This whole idea came from the fact that every single gaskey from the Y pipe out is gone, so I figure just get it done with now. I can afford to buy a decent muffler, which flow master do you recommend, or better yet, explaining the situation above, what would fit my "sound" requirements and still be a good muffler for a rover? Again, its not load, I just like the "rumble" of hearing every cylinder fire, and like it deep in sound, but loudness is annoying to me...

thanks again!

I've got the 40 series, and it isn't very loud, but it is very low and burbly. Don't go any louder than that.
