I checked out a VW Polo Tdi Bluemotion in the UK 2 weeks ago and I have to say I'd buy one for daily driver if it were sold here. No frills, decent quality with actually nicely-designed interior. With a nice stereo, sat radio and iPod adapter and I'd be happy.

Furthermore it gets 70-80 mpg depending on whether yout get the 1.6 liter 4 cylinder or the 1.2 liter 3 cylinder.

Screw the Prius and Insight-I could actually work on this car.

Yes, it is slow-meaning it probably performs favorably with most of the Land Rovers you might be driving.

Top Gear did a show using the Polo Tdi. They each picked a diesel to drive some crazy amount of miles on one tank. The Polo "won" with a crazy figure like you mentioned. Even the Jag diesel made it to the destination on one tank.

I think about buying a volt when they start selling them here. I drive just inside of that winter figure of estimated range. Then I ride a train from there. So I would be a possible candidate for the thing but I would lean toward leasing new technology like this.

From the article you posted:

"But apparently the numbers are a bit deceiving because GM is reportedly boosting production to meet demand and the car is ?virtually sold out,? according to another report."

They've sold so few of them because they've made so few of them.

That's what I was thinking (a few months ago), but the numbers have been abysmal and they keep saying the same thing: "We'll be ramping up production soon." When I hear a business keep repeating that, it sets off my BS meter.

What til GE gets their big "stimulus" check so they can order up those 50,000 they promised to buy in 2011. That should get those numbers up.

GE is getting a stimulus check? Talk about adding insult to injury. Immelt's cozy relationship with Obama got them out of several Billion in taxes, now he is getting a kickback as well? Good Lord.

I think Noee meant GM, and in any case, they've repaid their bailout, and are well into the black this year. No stimulus, unless you count the Bush Tax cuts...

No. GE has committed (marginally) to purchasing 100,000 Volts over a two year period. You can search yourself for the billions GE (Capital and affiliates) received under TARP.

GM has not paid back their bailout. THey got another loan from the Fed to payback just $8B of their original $50B "loan" from the bailout. The rest is tied up in preferreds and we (the people) will supposedly get the rest when Treasury sells it's outstanding shares.
