I have a chirp on the hood I can't find. New belt, some what new power steering pump. Sprayed idler pulley with PB and it is still there. Only happens above 2k RPM. Any ideas?

Thanks

how is your power? I have heard some bad chirping when gaskets start to go...ex man and head.

My first 95 had a head gasket that started out this way, only under load at first then it got ugly LOUD.

Power seems fine. I do have 211k on it. It seems weird to me that it does not make any noise till about 1750 rpm. The higher the rpm the high and louder the chirp.

You may want to replace the tensioner pulley. I had one let go on the interstate and it shredded the belt. I had a spare belt but not the pulley, so I was stranded until I got someone to bring a pulley out to me.

Oh, mine started out as a chirp and I just passed it off as the belt. Big mistake, because these things never let go at a convenient time or place!

Replace the tensioner pulley. They're about $25 at Advance for a plastic aftermarket that is a tiny bit bigger or about $90 at the dealer for the spring mechanism and pulley.

Plastic or poly tensioners have been know to come apart (that's what happened on mine). There was a factory recall years ago where they replaced the poly units with metal ones. This is one example where I would go with the factory part. When the poly one lets go, it turns into sharp peices of rotating plastic, hence my shredded belt!

Replaced the tensioner pulley and still a chirp but I noticed that my manifold is cracked so I'm going to fix that and see if it goes away.

Take the belt off and spin each pulley by hand and see if you can find the chirp before you go in the direction you are headed.

I have only happens when driving and RPMs above 1750. Doesn't do it in neutral revving the engine. Is it maybe fan clutch?

Pressure test and sea foam.

The head gasket on my 95 broke between the cyclinder and vented directly out between the head/block. No water jacket was affected, it let go about 90 miles from home with no water loss or overheating, it just sounded like a 1 cylinder John deere puffing down the highway. I chased that "chirping" from driveshaft to exhuast manifolds to pulleys.

Theres a picture of that gasket somewhere in an old thread here.
