go my engine hoist today.
i'm going to leave in the radiator and protect it.
are there engine lift points or do I just wrap a chain around the thing?

I read some previous posts, and it seems like taking off the top of the engine helps.

I've pulled the driver side head, which, admittedly, had a engine hook point. But there was only one, and that doesn't make any sense from a balancing point.

Also, do I have to support the transmission (I thought the tranny had mounting points)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Oh and do you raise the truck up?

I like to take the intake manifold off, both upper and lower intake. Then I get the upper bell housing bolts from the top. Protect the radiator with a thick piece of cardboard , and take the harmonic balancer off to make more clearance. Its a 15/16 socket if I remember correctly and then it should slide right off with no puller.

You will need to go down under the truck for a little bit. You have all the bell housing bolts and torque converter bolts. Make sure you get all 4 of those and verify that the converter spins free with out the flywheel. You really don't want to have to get that converter back into the trans.and that's how those trans front pumps get fucked up.

One thing I do that maybe others don't is take the brackets off that hold the alternator and ac compressor. this makes it easy to get the knock sensor harness pulled up out of the lower drivers side. Also when you take the a/c compressor off its mount the hoses will be long enough for you to lay it over in the empty air cleaner box.

What I usually do is use bolt holes. I like to use a hole on the back of the cylinder head on one side and an opposit hole in the front head. Intake manifold bolt holes will also work. Just get a chain big enough so those bolts will go thru the links, but it won't need to be too big. Chains will be rated by lbs and you should be fine with one rated at 1000 lbs. probably even a little less. Sorry I missed the fact that you have a head off, so get a 3 1/2 foot piece of chain that will accept a head bolt and use a headbolt hole on that side and then find a hole that will ballance it out from the other side.

i was wondering if i could do just that, and you answered it for me.
i know there area lot of things to unplug etc. fyi, i'll have a pretty nice 1ton lift for sale afterwards!
I'll hit up up with questions if I come across anything odd for me.
thank you for all the hep.

Engine is out.
Don't really want to put it back in. lol
Looking forward to cleaning it up.
Not looking forward to rewrapping everything as the heat from the engine has turned all the plastic cable guides into dust.
Any suggestions for wrapping, any mods to do while I'm in there, motor mounts, etc?
