I need to mount my shock resovoir in the area of where the factory airbox is located. Question is, has anyone replaced the air box in their DI with a cone style filter? I've seen the write up in the tech page for the DII but the DI has a sensor at the top of the air box.

I was thinking about pulling the sensor and drilling a hole in the connection between the air box and the maf. I already have the filter and mocked it up into place last night and everything fit. Seems to me that there shouldn't be a problem with moving the sensor. As always, your thoughts are appreciated.

only problem I could think of (same with all cone filters) is that it sucks in hot air from the engine bay. unless you somehow partition it off. but then again, the engine is such a dog, it probably wouldn't make a difference.

I was planning to fab up a heat sheild for it. You're right, having the sheild makes a big difference. Thanks Joe! Anyone else have any thoughts?

Will do Joey. It's gonna be a while though. Can't seem to find the time lately to go work on the truck.

So far, I've cut the tube coming from the air box going to the maf. I drilled a hole in part of the tube and installed the sensor. I put it together and started the truck. The CEL wasn't tripped and everything seemed normal.

I'm thinking about re-doing it b/c the tube reduces from the maf side to where I'm going to mount the filter. I'm thinking it would be better to have the same size, non reduced, pipe.

I did search but nothing conclusive came up in the two threads that matched the search criteria. Thanks for the pic though!

I'm not converting over to the cone style for performance, but b/c I've decided to mount the front driver's side resovoir where the airbox was. The hose to the res is short and I can't get it to reach where the bottle jack was mounted.
