is a cordless impact wrench, say an 18v DeWalt, powerful enough to use while working on a car? I don't have air tools, and if a cordless model would not only double its duty with work on the car, and around home, it would be beneficial. I assume I would get the 3/8 inch version, 1/4 inch seems too small/weak?

I would prefer to stay with a dewalt as I already have batteries.

If this isnt something worth while then I will just stick with breaker bars.

I use my 1/4" all the time. But after its snug I recheck with a wrench.
I also have the 1/2" cordless for the lugnuts.
First time that I've seen the 3/8 impact...should work fine.

I used one of the 3/8 Dewalt last week.

Pretty impressive, and whe nI did the wheels, I check it with the Torque Wrench afterward, was more than adequate.

They guy who had it, he also had a rapid car charger of some sort ( looked like the regualr charger but plugged into a cig socket ) never seen one of those before

I have a 1/4" drive one. Less torque but it is useful for removing the lugs after breaking them loose or snugging them (and tighten with a breaker bar)

If you drive a lot of screws, these are amazing. Don't break your wrist when the screw bottoms out.

Thanks, I am going to look in to the 3/8 dewalt then. I agree 500 is steep, but if I can bet a dewalt with two batteries for around 200, it beats buying a bulky mid range compressor.
