I have a dog that really doesn’t like people touching her. She’s actually not mean, just not social. She is painfully loyal and attentive, like a clingy girlfriend. I’m in a city and good lord everyone is out walking, which I can’t blame them.

When I walk her and I see someone coming the other way I always cross the street. Now, it’s almost impossible to avoid people. I feel like I’m Emmit Smith dodging linebackers back and forth across the street trying to avoid people wanting to pet my dog. If they have kids it’s 10 times worse. Social distancing applies to dogs, too.

That is why I like chessies, more independent than clingy.

Most places that sell an actual product are open in LA. You might just have to do curbside pickup, or order online. Its only really non essential services, like barbers that are closed. Even bars can do takeout cocktails from what I understand.

If I was getting one of these checks I'd definitely splurge and buy something I wouldn't normally. Obviously if I needed it to pay my mortgage or buy groceries I would.

Really, like malls and outlets are still open? You can go buy clothes, shoes, etc....? All our retail is closed here. No such thing as curbside. Walmart is likely making a killing.

I ordered a trampoline net online from Jumpsport in San Jose. I corresponded with 2 different employees and they shipped it on Tuesday.

Anything that sells food products, ammunition, hardware are all still open here. The giant outlet mall in the village I work for is closed. The Great Wolf waterpark is closed.
There's a lot of things that are deemed "essential" you might not realize. I mean, how essential is Best Buy. If your refrigerator or laptop craps out I guess it's pretty essential.
What sucks is I need a haircut. BAD. And no place is open!

I am just using a #5 until they reopen. I understand the essentials thing, seems odd to me though.

Lowes had a 5 for $10 sale on mulch. We went and got 20 bags. It was packed.

normally I get a load from the locally owned landscaper store but they’re not essential so they’re closed.

She is a black lab/pit mix. Big like a lab, 75 pounds but looks like a pit, with short hair and muscular. Had dogs all my life, never one like this. If I’m home she is never more than a few feet away.

I do think that (or maybe it's just me) there's been a big disconnect in that people think that if they stay inside for weeks they aren't going to get the virus. That's not the point of "flattening the curve" Hundreds of thousands, or millions will still get it, they just won't get it at the same time (now), but over the coming months. Seeing a lot of posts elsewhere about people telling others to "stay inside, I don't want to get sick"

Sweetie you're still going to get sick. Just maybe in June. Or July. Or November. Not in April.

Snowed here yesterday, stuck inside. Looks to be a nice day today so I'm going for a motorcycle ride after work. Did order some fantastic Nepalese food (take out) last night which was a nice break from cooking at home.
Everybody has to make it to the other side. The only other option is to not get sick long enough for them to get a vaccine. I just figure after the big surge hopefully the vent shortage is over and they maybe figure out what to do for us.
Then also I think there's some truth to the idea that some of us have already had it. So when they can start testing for antibodies some of us will be able to go back about our business.

Exactly, tell him to spend it with small businesses, as soon as it arrives. Even if he doesn’t need anything, spend it. In this case the stimulus will hopefully stave of total economic starvation.
The idiot governor of Colorado has an entirely different outlook.

“If you’re accepting the $1200 or $2400 per couple ... you're accepting that with your honor intact for a job that you are doing, and that job is staying home. You are cheating the federal government and cheating the rest of us if you’re pocketing that money and going out...

“This is a payment to stay at home. And we all have our honor and integrity. We don’t want a handout, we want to earn it. You’re earning it by staying home...”

what a maroon.

so you took peoples 40, 60, 60, 70k and more jobs away by force and their new job is to stay home for $1200 each? Who is this moron’s press secretary?

Meanwhile in South Carolina we are the only state east of the Mississippi without a shelter in place/stay at home order. Still plenty of idiots out and about. Maybe Gov. Foghorn Leghorn will succumb to the pressure at some point because he won’t make that decision on his own

Wow! And I thought our PA Gov was a jerk! IMHO a total asshole although I bet many will agree with this.

Missouri has a pretty sad recent history with our Governors. The current one wasn’t even elected. The other one resigned facing a federal indictment and a lot of “smoke“ in other areas. Our county and city made the stay at home order weeks ahead of the governor. Leaders prove their worth during crisis.

It is possible to spend that money and meet the intent of “staying home.” Curbside pick up and delivery... Not taking sides, it is just important to read and understand what exactly the stay at home order includes / excludes.

So, honest question. If Governors and / or the Feds try to spring this into Mid-late May what will be the reaction from the public? Don't don't think it would go over well for a few reasons. Quality of life being the fist. The second would be a certain frustration level concerning the social distancing and stay at home order. On the surface is definitely appears we're focused more on prevention and less on the cure. Even though this may not be the case optics are everything when you confine families to their homes. Got to tell you, I"m three weeks in and the 'fuck it' thought has certainly crossed the mind. Would I run to the parents or in-laws? Certainly not, would I try to get as much back to normal as I could, certainly would. Virus be damned. I'll work with the school of thought though April, after that I can't guarantee anything.

I agree. i hope it isn’t needed. Domestic violence and reports of child abuse have already started to climb in our region.

My wife has been my son’s “home school” teacher since the schools were closed. They are both really stressed about it and take a lot of breaks. There is a reason we have professional teachers and classrooms. I sure hope our school district gets approval from the state to write off part of the school year.

i think this recent recommendation for public mask usage is the primer to massaging public opinion to ending the stay at home order.

The “funny” aspect of this is I think most people are currently wearing them to protect themselves when the greatest benefit is protecting others.
