I do think that (or maybe it's just me) there's been a big disconnect in that people think that if they stay inside for weeks they aren't going to get the virus. That's not the point of "flattening the curve" Hundreds of thousands, or millions will still get it, they just won't get it at the same time (now), but over the coming months. Seeing a lot of posts elsewhere about people telling others to "stay inside, I don't want to get sick"

Sweetie you're still going to get sick. Just maybe in June. Or July. Or November. Not in April.

Snowed here yesterday, stuck inside. Looks to be a nice day today so I'm going for a motorcycle ride after work. Did order some fantastic Nepalese food (take out) last night which was a nice break from cooking at home.

Not necessarily in June or July. The experts think it could be seasonal and 80 plus degrees will knock it down but not out. Maybe next year?

We actually had our kids tested this week and they came up negative. My mom goes between my house and my brothers to help take care of the kids. We where relieved to learn she could come back to our house, then we found out my brothers nanny had been exposed and came in on Monday. So now my brother is keeping his house locked down and my mom is stuck there.

Honestly, How cool would it have been to got it early and easily recovered. If that happened you could take advantage of all the cheap flights

My dad is saying this same thing and when I asked him to cite references he couldn't send me any. Also, he lives in Florida, its in the 80s there and does not seem to be slowing down Do you have anything on this? Because if this is true, then i am seriously considering renting a Air BnB in Phoenix for the summer

My dad asked me yesterday why he, and millions like him who are old and on social security and file no taxes are getting a check.

I have no idea either. He’s not working, on social security income, and is now getting an additional $1200 than he otherwise gets.

fiscally it makes no sense. I guess it’s optics. Otherwise it would be: Trump is racist against old people! He wants them to die!

motherfucker they aren’t out of work. They don’t work. They’re old. Why should they get a “sucks you’re out of work” check?

The point is not to pay your rent with that check. The point is for you to pay someone else's when you spend it.

Forget how this stuff is sold. Governments pitch that ball to be caught. It's an economic stimulus, and that has quite a bit to do with spending money from an individual perspective and less to do with making it. That's for who you pay. It's got to be spread around as thoroughly as possible to achieve that goal.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the right way to do things; only that it's how things are done. Nobody who ever promised to put a chicken on so many tables actually cared what people ate for dinner. That's just sugar in the medicine.

Whatever. I'm not too worried about it, the numbers are so darn big that at some point you may as well just go balls out. There's only one shot to make it work, and there's no sense being stingy with eggs around that particular basket. One chance. That's all there is. It's too expensive to even think about again.

Cheers,

Kennith

Exactly, tell him to spend it with small businesses, as soon as it arrives. Even if he doesn’t need anything, spend it. In this case the stimulus will hopefully stave of total economic starvation.

Our firefighters pooled $1500 and every day are buying a take out meal from local independent restaurants. It isnt much, but it helps. I’m fortunate to be working and getting paid. My wife isn’t but we feel very fortunate. I’ll be spending every cent of my stimulus money as fast as I can locally. Lol, I have already spent some it during the ”seclusion.” I see others are doing the same as evidenced by posts on this thread.

Spend where? Everything is closed.
Check your chamber of commerce. Many small businesses have opened online stores or are taking phone orders. If you can’t find anything you might want local, I’d be surprised. However, Rovers North, Will Tillery, Paul Grant, and others in the more distant small business community are shipping. Maybe Dad should buy you some Rover gifts. My wife bought a swimsuit from Savage Swim in St. Augustine, FL she had been wanting since our last visit. She likes boutique clothing. It’s more than we would usually spend, but they are the definition of a small business that is likely to struggle. Some need that stimulus to pay their mortgage and basic bills. We don’t, so we are spending our stimulus on small business.

Here’s an example of our local businesses open: https://midcountychamber.org/smallbizguide/

Save some of the money for when public only type businesses do reopen.

Most places that sell an actual product are open in LA. You might just have to do curbside pickup, or order online. Its only really non essential services, like barbers that are closed. Even bars can do takeout cocktails from what I understand.

If I was getting one of these checks I'd definitely splurge and buy something I wouldn't normally. Obviously if I needed it to pay my mortgage or buy groceries I would.

Someone I know just bought a new phone at Best Buy and had it all set up. They said there was curbside service, as you mention. Apparently, they sat out there at opposing ends of a six foot table to... Uhh... Whatever the hell people do when they get a new iPhone.

Sounds quite nice, actually.

Restaurants are doing some incredible things. One example, many steakhouses are offering their best cuts delivered right to your car door. Give them a call, tell them to pick you out a nice porterhouse, seriously.

I've had really good experiences so far with curbside pickup here. We cook a lot and aren't going to the grocery store, so that's a big change, but we're just getting boxes of produce from local farmers for all of our produce. Got a Costco delivery for meat and some other kitchen stuff, so we're good there.
