LOL...it's funny watching SGaynor try to play doctor.

don’t forget Scott was preaching a 3.5% mortality rate early on. Sky was falling shit. Trump orange man bad stuff.

he just can’t help being wrong. I bet he’s really deep down pissed China released this shit upon us and it had nothing at all to do with Trump orange man bad. Wait til he starts to say trump could have forced china to stop China, that’s next.

anyway, county commissions votedreal estate as essential today, the community can get back to work and have showings now. That’s great news, let’s not chime off our housing market, all we got left.

First we overreacted because the initial fatality reports said it was at 15%.
What the fuck do you think doctors and virologists and politicians were using in the beginning? Where do you think the reports were coming from?

Also "case fatality rate" is fucking useless since, again, it only counts known cases and everyone and their goddamned grandmother knows that the infected population is vast.
First, the scientists were screaming the sky was falling, but everyone knows that value was useless. I guess those scientists were too stupid to know better. Thank god we have you.

I'm wrong? Weren't you telling us this was just like the flu? Insisting it was no big deal?

Do us a favor - go volunteer in a NYC hospital. With no PPE. Report back in three weeks.

(And, I know numbers are hard for you, but 4.7% (US today) is GREATER THAN 3.5% (WHO report in early Feb))

Your stomping ground Scott, check it.

When undetected infections aren't taken into account, the Lancet study found that the coronavirus death rate was 1.38%, which is more consistent with earlier reports.

Early in March, for example, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that "if you just do the math, the math is about 2%."

But he emphasized that the number could go down, saying that "as a group it's going to depend completely on what the factor of asymptomatic cases are."
That's because death rates typically only consider reported coronavirus cases, which tend to be more severe, and thus brought to the attention of health care workers. Asymptomatic cases -- or mild cases -- may not always be counted.

Now, what about your 3.5% again? And, Haven't I been saying exactly this above the whole time? Can't re-write history ding-a-ling. Bottom line, all these numbers are inconclusive. The CDC, Who, state testing. And China? Can we believe a word they say? What do we know? This virus gets into a nursing home you can pack your shit and go home, those are the FACTS. All this 'data' you spew. Step back, watch what's going on and just think for yourself just a second. That's all I'm saying.

County commissioners here finally thought for themselves and overturned Real Estate as an 'essential' business in our county. It took some carefully crafted letters and emails to come to that decision let me tell you. They put down the news and watched what was going on here, locally. They made the right call.

How's everybody doing? I've been at home doing the social distancing thing as well as anybody. My boss sent me home to wait this one out a day before the official Illinois stay at home order was put in place. I used up some vacation days, my boss paid me a little for a couple weeks, unemployment started getting deposited last week. I'm good, fuck going back to work until the facts say it's safe.
I feel like Wall Street and big business have to wait parts of this stimulus package to trickle up to them. They kind of got fucked on this one huh?
I hope everybody is staying healthy. I'm sorry for anybody who's lost a person in this.

Tired of your shit and your disregard of the parameters that I set for discussion here. You're banned for three months.

I think the country is going to need to get back to work, sooner rather than later. I don't think the country can afford another 3 months of being shut down.

The municipality I work for based its revenue on sales, hotel, and amusement tax. They don't get any property tax. The situation is not good. Water sales are down 20% for the first two weeks in April. Capital and operating budgets are being sliced and diced. Raises are canceled, vacancies promotions are being held.

We went from 3 crews working two 10 hr days, to 2 crews working three 12 hr days. I'm happy to be working and getting paid/benefits, but realize we, as a country, cannot afford this.

In the meantime I'm using the extra days off to study for my Chem class, finish my basement, and do other odd jobs. Still don't have anyone in my circle infected so I'm thankful for that.

Today is the start of week 7 for me working from home. My employer applied for and won a Payroll Protection Program loan/grant. I'm glad we have a little breathing room. By some miracle Seattle has had amazing weather for the last couple weeks, unheard of in the springtime. This has been a mixed blessing: I'm grateful for sun and clear skies so I can get out to ride my bike and run the stairs and walk around the empty streets of my neighborhood to appreciate the blooming gardens. But it also means the trails and parks are crowded because everyone else is also going nuts from seclusion. I have learned to navigate the city via quiet routes.

The governor and local officials have communicated clearly and frequently about the need for continued stay-at-home and social distancing, yet so many people seem to think they are immune, or "if I only hang out with this one person I won't get sick." It's maddening. The nonchalance with which a lot of folks are approaching this crisis is frustrating. Washington has been doing a decent job of controlling its infection rate, I hope that continues.

Surreal scene recap - I was riding my bike along the shore of Lake Washington and at a park I saw four 50-something women, I assume unrelated, climb out of a Maserati SUV-thing and walk away together in a tight group, chatting as if this was 2019. No PPE, but the yoga pants were fancy.

You guys are way healthier than me. While y'all have been hiking, biking and wrenching, I've been working on perfecting my Old Fashioned and delving into summer wines.

Can't say I didn't see that coming. You clearly laid out the rules but the guy just can't help himself. While I don't agree with the Politics forum, I certainly agree that trying to bring that trash here to the General forum is out of line. I'm glad you're sticking to your guns and keeping this place around.

I just got tired of the negativity about this virus. People who remain hopeful and clear headed always win the day.

Thanks for making the tough call and sticking to your principles. It’s one thing to bust people’s chops over silly, dumb, or irrelevant rover questions, but when things go way off the rails, it’s good to cut it.

I’ve benefited greatly from the help here, so thanks for keeping the good going.

Kiddo is 15 months old. Amazon finally shipped the bicycle chariot thing I ordered so we went riding today up and down the street.

Looks like they are started to talking about returning to work around 1 May-ish, at least phasing things in. So with that said I'm taking off all next week to paint, set up the garden (good I didn't put it in a couple weeks ago - hard frost hit Monday and wiped out most of Western Colorado's peach and apricot orchards (and a western CO peach is the best in the world and I say that as a born and bred Georgia boy), and finish a pergola project I've been lazy about finishing but it will keep the sun out of one of the bedrooms. The window faces west and gets so hot in summer you can't touch it.

Apologies for my part in the thread derail above.

I have been able to paint the kitchen, master bedroom and should have the bathroom finished this weekend. I have several new loads worked up for target shooting & hunting and soule sight installed......just need to find a place to shoot since all the public ranges are closed.20200405_231610_resized.jpg20200410_224420_resized.jpg

While doing some research I ran across this tidbit that I think is encouraging given the current situation.
"Among the samples collected without a face mask, we found that the majority of participants with influenza virus and coronavirus infection did not shed detectable virus in respiratory droplets or aerosols, whereas for rhinovirus we detected virus in aerosols in 19 of 34 (56%) participants (compared to 4 of 10 (40%) for influenza and 8 of 23 (35%) for coronavirus). For those who did shed virus in respiratory droplets and aerosols, viral load in both tended to be low (Fig. 1). Given the high collection efficiency of the G-II (ref. 19) and given that each exhaled breath collection was conducted for 30 min, this might imply that prolonged close contact would be required for transmission to occur, even if transmission was primarily via aerosols, as has been described for rhinovirus colds20."

Interesting. Can you please link the source for that?

Interesting article. Thought it is ironic though “Both the previous and current study used a bioaerosol collecting device, the Gesundheit-II (G-II)12,15,19, to capture exhaled breath particles”.

In Germany, it's polite to say “gesundheit” after someone sneezes, which more or less means “health.”
