I have a 2001 disco II se and yesterday the cup holder quit working. It will still slide into the dash under the heater but it will not stay there. Anybody know how to fix it or do i have to replace the entire thing? If it does need replaced would i be able to buy one for less than say $30,000. So far the prices for everything else ive bought start there and go up!:D

I took it out and i cant see anything obvious wrong. The spring is working. It still has tension in and out it just wont stay in. Normally if you push in once it will come out. If you push it in again it should stay in but doesnt.

Unfortunately, the cup holder needs to be replaced. The cost is about $70 because some guy at Land Rover said, "Hey, let's combine the cup holder, the ash tray and the coin tray into one unit so when some crazy fool drives this already expensive vehicle and the cup holder stop working he will have to replace the entire unit." And then they all agreed and made it a one piece cup holder. You could also not use it, since they are pretty worthless anyhow and get the cup holders that sit on the console. Much nicer and hold everything. Just my $.02.

X2, did the install of these holders 2 weeks ago, and they're perfect for any size glass or mugs. I most definitely recomend them

Me thinks he meant $30 less than the $78 that they want for the old cupholder/ashtray/coin holder assembly.

Ahhh, yes. Apparently I need to slow down and read a little better. It did seem like a heck of a deal.

Since we're correcting things, I guess it's actually closer to $20.00 less then the in-dash unit. But the point is they are much better cup holders. I almost never use the dash one anymore. :)

Fritz,

True about the difference :) .

I only use my in-dash holder if the console holders are full of other cups/cel phone/pack of smokes and I have a can of Coke that needs a home.

Holy shit $78 for a cup holder! Im used to paying the land rover tax but in ohio i can get a hooker to ride along and hold my beer while i drive for $50. In the bitter end however i will have to break down and fix it because it is driving me nuts. After all it is less than $30,000 so i guess its worth it."cheapest" fix so far. How hard is it to install the ashtray/coin holder/cupholder assembly? Its no small wonder that the cover is broke off the ash tray and the coin holder wont deploy manually so i guess the cup holder was next. Thanks for the help!

The cup holder assembly is very easy to remove and reinstall. Simply remove the ash tray and the coin trays from the dash. These should come out with a slight tug. Then locate the 3 or 4 screws in the back. Remove these on both the ash tray and the coin tray sides. Once removed, simply slide out the cup holder assembly. Replace with the new assembly using the same screws. Takes 5 minutes.

you can take out the spring in the back so that it slides in and out, it just wont pop out. this is the best fix because the cupholders will stay put when you slide them all the way in, they wont accidentally pop open, and you can manually slide them out whenever you want. do that, get the console cupholders, and you're set.

My in-dash cupholder is broken too. The little round thingy had some of its teeth break off. Any idea where I could find a replacement for that? It's (very surprisingly) currently the only thing broken on my Disco and it bothers me.

I have had these apart and found a plastic guide piece that keeps the holder closed that distorts or breaks. I have spare parts to repair it if this is the case, contact me and I will send you need to get it fixed.
