I just purchased a Kelty rack awning/tarp from Cabelas, it has guy lines which could be tricky for tail gateing........100 bucks.

Ben , I have plans drawn up and tried to make it very simple and easy. This SD camel trophy rack is an awesome platform for this. You are going to like what I come up with.

Trick mounting points (CNC Machined of course) but otherwise a very simple design.

I expect to have it finished by end of August.

Can't wait! I was telling Dan about it today. I'm looking at a way to do something similar on the Rangie.

The Rangie is running like a champion by the way ;)

I eneded up getting the 12x12 Noah Tarp by Kelty. It's very lightweight which I like because I'll use it for backpacking and overlanding and it was free with my REI dividend check from 2007. It retails for $65

I know this is an old thread...

Ben do you have a picture of the noah 12 setup on your truck. I like the idea of the Noah that it can be set free from a car, but would like to see what it would look like set up on a rover. I am between the noah 12 and the kelty car tarp. I like the car tarp because it could be set up easily between two trucks...

Old thread my ass. I am gearing up to complete my awning now that we have some warmth and daylight. It just never materialized last year. Bring on the awnings people!

I know I recommended the Kelty car tarp earlier in this thread. But it turns out that it is thin and flimsy. Apparently one good gust was all it took to tear it.

You'd be better off with a Snow Peak/MSR/Kelty tarp and some separate poles rigged up on site.

Mike does fantastic fabrication work. The awning included.

Unfortunately, the 1/2 completed rack, awning, and lights were stolen yesterday. If you see anyone with this setup, please let him (or me know).

Yeah it's in. I'm moving to a new place so life is really hectic right now. The awning will be nice. Since I cant weld there will be a lot of CNCed components. :D

where i'm at right now, duh...
ok Rob, now you've got me thinking of awning designs!

I'm sooooo looking forward to going out in the desert this summer, and an awning would be a perfect addition. I'm tired of the ghetto tarp business:rolleyes:

I have seen a few pics of guys who made a fabric awning with tall poles that could be folded up and tied to the roof rack on either the back or the side....

Who has something similar and pics?

I saw this one recently, that traveltoad posted. Specs?
