Keep in mind that when the assembly line for the Rover V8s was auctioned off, some of the machinery that was still in use in 2004 was bought from GM and had been in use since 1962. There were claims that some of the original tooling was still in use as well.

Regardless of how tight one's quality assurance/control is, there will always be an outlier that gets past inspection.

No problem at all believing that sometimes things can get past QC.

Seems to me though, that if it truly IS a QC problem, it would NOT be with old GM/Rover tooling or processes, but with the Crower cam that is supposedly ground such as to justify the cam to the rear of the motor.

I was saying "whatever" to the fact that some of these cams are walking and the only advice we get from Mark is to clean it all up, space the cam sensor out a bit more, and put it all back together.

Sorry...just not buying it.

Not trying to bash Mark. I think he is a straight up guy who knows his shit.

I just think he is wrong on this particular issue. :bigok:

I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling that in the coming months/years, more people who actually have problems and/or take their front covers off will find evidence that the un-retained cams in a distributorless application have been walking forward and eating into shit.

For now, I think we have just about exhausted this discussion until someone else takes one apart and has something to add.

Peace

If it were NOT QC issues, wouldn't everyone on this board who bought this Bosch kit be having an issue with theirs as well? Seems like it's just a few of us doesn't it?

Dunno...

As far as I remember, the application for the Bosch motor was released only a few years ago.

I am only aware of a handful of people (at least on this site) who have this cam for a Bosch engine.

Can we get a show of hands of People who have the D&D Custom cam kit for a Bosch engine and if you have problems or not?

Maybe we should have a poll...

I'm finally back on the road after having the cover off to inspect and reassemble with the cam sensor spacer. All is well. Running like a top. No codes (Yet :), knock on wood). My oil cooler lines kept blowing off, but I got em on good and tight now. What a bitch. Pisses me off more than the location of the coil pack....

Nice to have it on the team out here, especially with the Alaskan winter that's begun, but about to get nasty. I fear nothing in my LR (except fucking morons that I encounter on a daily basis that can't drive worth a shit and put everyone in danger... Sorry, there's a lot of em out here for some reason)

At any rate, thanks for all the instruction guys. I knew practically NOTHING about cars before buying this Rover and I have the confidence to do almost anything as far working with cars now. It's nice. I spent an arm and a leg on my LR, but I've gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge and experience that will serve me well in future car ownership.

Couldn't have happened without Dweb. Thanks.

Cheers,

I did on the one's I could GET TO! I put them on the oil cooler lines, but not the trans lines. Mike, i was so frustrated with those fuckers, after I got them on and I KNEW I had them on there right that time, I was just happy to get there. My knuckles were bloodied and it was ass cold out in my carport. I ended up putting 7 quarts of ATF back in it after they blew off the last time. Ahhhhhh... I love the smell of trans fluid on your clothes and in the car, and EVERYWHERE. Shit smells like bear piss. They suck. I'll be looking for a nice upgrade for this.

I hear you brother! Let me know what you come up with. I want to do something different too. I want something field repairable nad flexible like hydro lines on a jet engine. If I come up with something I'll surely post. It will probably be spring before I get around to it though. Hydraulic fluid is nasty shit and does stink. It's not good for your health either.

Go Skins tonight!!!!

Cheers,

Mike

you guys r paranoid ;)

seriously though, i have a knock too on my d1. i hear it at idle after warming up. i think it is either cam walk or bottom end. i haven't taken the time to count it out but it seems too slow for a bottom end knock.

then again....maybe i am just paranoid. i know for sure, i aint fucking with it...till shards of metal come at me through the firewall.
