Looking for helpful advice. I converting my '97 D1 to automatic trans. Any helpful advise is appreciated. I looked for a previous posting on this but didn't find one but I'm sure it's been done and posted. Thanks in advance.

I don't think we are anywhere near each other but I am going to post all the standard trans components when done. I am doing this for me, not because I have a problem.

I would think that you need the shift cable and shifter. The console so it all looks right up top, and it should be available cheap. The pedal box should be switched out if not just because you could sell it and it's worth a lot in my opinion. Maybe someone else could think of something else you might need. I think that your going to be able to make the t case work as long as you get the tailshaft extension out of the other unit your steeling the trans from.

Right but that's going to come with the trans. But he would need that bracket that goes on the back of the head to hold it.

When's the last time you saw a kickdown (transmission control) cable physically run through that little piece of bent spring steel?

It's a whole lot easier to go from manual to auto than it is auto to manual-worse yet when you're using Disco parts to convert an RRC...

Yeah, I'm a glutton

On all my trucks it runs thru that bent piece of steel. O2 sensor harnesses are on there brackets.

I have this D1 loaded up with lockers, axles, bumpers, under plating, lifted, lights, etc. I've driven it for 10 years and it really has made me a better driver but it seems a lot of my off-roading is over rocks and steps. So it really is difficult with a stick. Plus the clutch quality is fading because it's time to pull the trans and replace the clutch.

I'm kind of with him on the auto trans for offroading. I shift my own gears on the street in the car I use to comute. But I just like the auto trans for some of the shit he's talking about traversing.

Yeah, I would get an auto DI, swap whatever is needed, and at the end you have a Manual DI you can sell it rather then the a pile of left over parts.

It is kind of hard to argue that it's worth more money the way it sits now. Your going to be spending money and time and going to make it worth less.
