I am wondering why a D1 with 5sp would sputter under load, and had a hard time passing 3000 rpm?
If you baby it you can reach higher rpms, But if it is at 2K and you floor it, It will not accellerate, Just miss and skip till you let off the gas to just about 10% throttle.
What could it be???
And suggestions of what I can look at to diagnose this issue as easy as possible!
Peter.

If it's consistent (happens every time), I'd also look for excessive backpressure from plugged catalytic converters.
If it's occasional, it can be VSS.

This is a used Disco that is priced right, But VERY clean, Thinking of replacing my beat up trail truck with non beat up trail truck
I will go there tomorrow with a pressure gauge, If i remember correct I am looking for about 35 psi on the fuel
The cats are fine, Exhaust modulates well, so no pressure there,
When colt, The engine misses and skips a bit when first started,, I firgot to add that.
Cold engine sputtering worse, Fully warm, still does it but not as bad, But still bad!
What else can I look at?
Engine is smooth otherwise, and I think I can get the truck for 2000
Would it be worth it?
Peter.

what year? have you checked each plug for spark or checked ignition timing?

first I'd unplug every electric connection under the hood and clean it, then get a can of maf cleaner.

Truck is a 96 5 sp with the 4 coil packs
I have had my 97 disco through heck and high watern never issues like this
Truck is in near showroom, Mine is not,
I was thinking that truck has 124K miles and that is when my fuel pump went bad,,,,
what do you think, Fuel pump or filter, All electrics look good to me.
Keep it coming!

do you have a timing light? maybe clamp it on and put it in the passenger seat and drive around, see if it stops flashing, then you'll eliminate ignition, crank and cam sensor.

I had the same problem - ended up being a bad distributor that was throwing the timing off...Worth a look.
