I have a big crack down the center of my windshield. Went to a junk yard, you pull it, the other day and they have 2 d1's in there with good windshields. Anyone ever pull one from and junk yard then have it installed? If so is there anything I need to know before I cut out the new, used, one?

Thanks in advance
Paul

Have them pull it and have a professional install it.

I have had a windsheild guy meet me at the pic and pull and do all the work...they charged about $25 extra to pull the window out.

the guy had the window out of the benz in about 2 min.

and 40 min later had it in mine...well worth the extra cost IMHO

call around and talk to the window guys in your area.

If you don't have the specialized tools for removing the windshield forget about doing it yourself. Even most specialists won't guarantee that they can remove the glass without it breaking.

I didn't think a new DI windshield cost that much. I know the heated glass for RRC's is a lot of money and that pulling them from pre-95 trucks is easy. The '95 RRC windshield is interchangeable with the DI if you deel ambitious and want heated glass.

For $200, not worth the hassle going with a used windshield. Most yards I know of will expect you to pay for it even if you do break it.

Yes this question had been addressed more than a few times here on Dweb. The Land Rover part numbers are not the same because one is heated while the other is not. However, I know of at least on person who actually swapped windshields wth no difficulty.

If you want to replace your windshield with an OEM part, find an installer that uses Pilkington products. Pilkington bought Triplex many years ago. I had a new windshield quoted for my DI including all new molding strips for about $340. Turnaround was two days. One for delivery of windshield and molding and one day for installation.

Rob - is it stock glass or aftermarket glass?
IIRC, stock D1/RRC windshield is thicker than most cars' triplex.

im not sure pete. this is the local guy i'm betting he is using ppg from all the signs on the building.

i tried to buy a heated discc windshield , brand new from RN and they were hesitant to ship it to me as it had to come direct from england. They suggested i order it just before their container leaves dock each quarter. Luckily I didn't buy it since I totaled the disco.
