I know Chevy 350s are common and simple enough, what I meant was, that must have taken a fuckload of work... Not just all the repositioning and substitution involved, but how would you adapt the electronics??

What electronics?
The fuckstick who did the modification just slapped a Holley on it. Making the truck completely illegal in all 50 states.

Holleys have never been illegal, on their own.
Retrofitting a vehicle with an engine older than OEM engine is illegal on federal level. I am pretty sure there were no carburetted SBC 350s in 1994 (first year a D1 was imported state-side, don't know what the year of the vehicle in question is).
Lack of enforcement in many localities doesn't make it legal - some uneducated future owner will eat the crow. And that's why, Kris, the present owner is a fuckstick.
It isn't that big of a deal to source a small block V8 of proper vintage, and with a proper EFI setup, if one were hell-bent on a conversion.

Interestingly enough, Painless wiring solutions advertises the ability to mate any two wiring harnesses to make a seamless, plug and play installation which eliminates MIL lights, etc. Technically, it would be illegal in regards to a NC State inspection (the state where I live), but it would at least allow it to pass a sub par or even par inspection process.

350 chevy motor chromed out to the max
Holley Truck Avenger carburetor (for those extreme angles!)

I've been to a lot of car shows and dyno shops, and usually when this is the engine build you barely break 200hp

Its hard to tell from the low resolution picture, but I don't see a passenger side antenna making that vehicle a 97 or newer. Good luck with title transfer, most civilized places require proof of inspection.

No state inspections in FL, they are coming eventually but nothing yet. I see tons of these type of conversions in jags, S10 pickups etc.. Stuff that will never pass inspection with a carb....I guess they can enjoy them while they can.

Nothing about that truck is appealing. The hideous "stinger" bumper and the horrible tire size make it very ugly.

The ad reads equally bad.

When did offset wheels become "cool"? They don't look right on anything, but less wrong on a Jeep.

Except the possibilities brought forth through the fitting of a reliable, affordable, and available powerplant.

When one considers the ramifications of the retro-fit, even a brandy new Coscast Rover V8 would be cheaper, reliable and affordable.

I don't understand the hatin' on the little over V8. They are really elegant machines with great potential if one is realistic.

Can you imagine trying to have someone fix that truck should something happen to it? Yeah, everybody knows how to work on an SBC, but where does THIS wire go? What does it do?

Such builds are sexy, but not realistic.

is it purple or pink? it either goes to the starter or the coil ;)

gen 3/4 gm v8s have been out for 13 years now, putting a gen 1 small block chevy in anything these days is dumb. Flathead Fords look cooler, and make about as much sense to swap in.

That is the crux of the biscuit, and why they are attractive.
Will I ever do it? No. For the same reason I gave up trying to date strippers in my 20's. Because it's not practical. It's a royal pain in the ass trying to get it all aligned and financed, and then you hope to God the cops don't pull you over because you know part of the package is illegal.

BUT, I have no trouble admitting my affinity for Detroit Displacement. In the same way some clamor over a Toyota third or a IH/Cummins diesel, I'll fantasise over 40 dollar alternators and off-the- shelf starters.

Middle age has it's perks, namely being able to dream the fantastic dreams of youth while knowing where not to waste money and time.
