You need a mass air flow meter....also check you air box to make sure it closes and seals correctly

x2 on the mass air flow meter , as for the air filter being the culprit unlikely, a dirty or plugged air filter will cause a rich condtion.. you can also try crc mass air flow sensor cleaner before replacing it .

I had that "Gear 4 Ratio Incorrect" code last year in the winter, and I happened to be looking down at the dash when it came on. the red gear box light also came on at the same time, but just for a moment. the Tcase wasn't physically hot. all fluids were at proper level, and cheked out ok. I'd

Techs had no clue. I'd like to know what triggered it.

the trans gear ratio is part of the MAF stuff too. It has something to do with the richness of the fuel and the trans not shifting because the mix is wacko. I think I remember reading that.

It is odd that it throws a tranny code, but it is completely related.

SOOOOOOO. . . . how did you fix it Ataraxia?????? Gear 4 Ratio Incorrect that is. . . ?
I didn't...

I pulled over right away to feel it and see whats going on.. checked all drive train fluids that night. the light also went away that night. nothing was changed.

A year later and alot of wheeling, never seen the related code/lights since.

weird :eek:ut:

I didnt say anything about the air filter ...........I said air filter box if it doesnt seal correctly it will let dirty air inside and contaminate the MAFS. there are "tangs" on the lid of the air box and they need to be positioned correctly.....check those or you will be replacing another MAFS soon for the same thing!

The MAF sensor is rather expensive. YOu can pull it and clean it with brake cleaner as I did with mine. I was getting a 174 code and pulled the MAF to find it was rather dirty. Be careful not to touch the inside of the sensor. This is a lot cheaper than buying one.

Zak it is NOT your tranny, why are you asking ataraxia how he fixed it after 42 people told you what the real problem is...

first take it out and clean it as stated above, if that doesnt solve the problem Will Terry has some used maf's for sale right now, cheap.

lastly, cold weather definetly brings out the maf codes...
