D2 running warm

Ok, I have searched and read quite a few older posts about the D2 motors running warm, but I was hoping I could get some exact answers in my case. Earlier this week mine decided to begin doing this as well. At idle after warming up the aux fans will kick on and stay on until the truck moves again. The temp gauge never moves (yes, I know the gauge is worthless) but it stays right in the middle even with the aux fans going. I just had the water pump (genuine) and front cover gasket replaced over the summer, as well as put a new HD fan clutch in. The fan clutch is locking up properly pulling plenty of air. The radiator seems to be cooling properly as the lower hose is much cooler by feel than the upper. This afternoon I put a new genuine thermostat in hoping that would solve the problems, but it still has not. It is 45 degrees outside right now and the aux fan still kicked in once I pulled home and came to a stop.

Are there any other things that I should look into before I have the truck taken back to Dallas to a rover shop?

I would rent or buy an scanner that reads live data and see what temps you are actually running at and then get back to us.

Yes, I bought all the parts to do this conversion and they are sitting in the back of the truck right now. I just still can't decide if I want to do it or not I guess. I accidentally bought a 170 degree thermostat instead of the 180, so I will need to get the correct one. I might be doing this tomorrow to see if it helps.

Anyone know how often the temperature sensor can just fail on these and give false readings?

the new fan clutch always seems to pull a lot of air all the time. more than stock anyways, but it was hard to compare the two when the old stock one had over 70K when I removed it

The first thing I would suggest would be to get yourself a scan gauge or something similar to see what temperature your engine is actually running at. The temp gauge is more of an idiot light than an actual gauge. Mine stays right in the middle over about a 30 to 40 degree difference in coolant temp. If you find that the coolant is running at a higher temp than you are comfortable with I would get the system flushed before you take it back to a dealership or start throwing parts at it.

mine stayed in the middle from around 160* to 230*F. It is basically a dummy light. a nicer code reader can read the temp in real time.

ok great. I'll order a scanguage 2 from the parts store on monday. At school in Nacogdoches, it takes quite a while to get parts...

I'd recommend a code reader from Innova, nice tool to have around.

If you got scangauge route order online at amazon and try code SCANGAUG for 30 off and free ship.

What temp should a D2 be running? At idle I normaly see 221 with the Ultra guage. It drops a little when driving but my aux fan is always on when sitting. Just thought it was supposed to be like that. I don't think it has ever gone higher than 221.

So I take it that's not good. Maybe time for a new thermostat. Running fine except for high idle. lowest is around 660 RPM's with the econ button on. With A/C engages RPMs range from 770 to about 860.

Ok well I have an update after the new thermostat went in. The aux fans only turn on whenever my heat in the truck doesn't work. I have been flushing the system a couple times a day according to RAVE. Hopefully once my heat works 100% of the time, the aux fans will stay off. I'm assuming that the thermostat was the problem before, and now that the new one is in, I have a couple air pockets. I'm still going to buy the scanguage 2 though to keep an eye on the temp all the time.

I have read other posts about the tricks of bleeding the D2's by lifting the front end, any other recommendations?
