D2 trans problem after r&r

hey guys - any insight would be appreciated here. here's what happened to my buddy today: he removed the transmission on a 2001 D2 to do a rear crank seal and reseal the transfer case. got it all back together and it runs great with no more oil leak, but, the sport and manual mode lights in the dash are flashing and the trans won't pull. the one gearbox dtc says 'pressure monitoring open or short to ground'. all electrical connectors appear fine and connected. the code won't clear either. fluid was topped off too. is it possible there's a plug unconnected somewhere on top that you can't see? of course this problem was not there prior to removing everything. as far as i can see, there are only 2 plugs on the auto gearbox - the neutral safety switch and the round plug that goes to the valve body. the rest are on top of the transfer case. what the hell did he miss? thanks in advance!

not sure what you mean by "trans wont pull". I do know that if the shift surround didnt get plugged in, your light will flash and it wont come out of 1st.

Please clarify "trans won't pull".

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the torque converter dropped out and is not engaging the pump in the trans properly. (happened to me once)

I think this is pretty likely. But your friend would have noticed that the clearance between the flex plate and the Torque converter is really tight. If he takes the Torque converter bolts out he should be able to spin the converter freely. And be able to push it back into the trans a little.

the torque converter spun freely and he was able to spin it in order to bolt it up to the flexplate so i'm inclined to think that thats ok. there's a multi-pin connector on top of the transfer case that's not plugged into anything. seems like it has no where to be plugged into. is that the old connector for the diff lock thats not there on this model? it sounds like it switches gears but the wheels dont want to turn. and the prndl blinks in D.

If you'd like, you can call me on the phone and we can discuss it

In between my feuding with the neighbor who is off on another rant again, this time with the building department.

Ya I went looking for you to see if all was good pt. I make fun of everything. You should know that by now. I poke fun at myself. It's not my trans. job. I would never admit to fucking that up.

Is the XYZ switch on the tranny positioned correctly? That can cause the M+S lights to flash. There is an alignment tool for this. Never have seen it cause performance problems but there's a first time for everything.

turns out he had the long bolts where the short bolts should have been and the adjustment on the inhibitor switch (pns switch, or xyz) was off. short bolts in the front, long ones in the rear and all is well now. who would have thought he'd have to pay attention to bolt sizes on a transfer case? lol. anyway, we thank you all for your wisdom!
