I was driving my 88 samurai jx as a dd for a few months when the rover was off the road. 130 highway miles a day in a samurai is quite the experience. It was pretty nice getting 28mpg though. During the summer I ride my DRZ400S a lot which gets 35-55mpg depending how I'm riding.

 That's about the funniest damn thing I've read all day!

You laugh but both of those little, cheap cars are pretty awesome. I drove a 02 SVT half way across the country last summer. You laugh but those things are FUN! Zippy, seems to be the correct words. Didn't have the stupid power of the STi but it could scoot. Overall fun to drive without taking away from comfort.

I checked out the little Forte a couple months ago. At first, I was skeptical but a strong engine and a 6 speed manual (6 speed = awesome, dunno if you are aware) are available. Actually roomy inside, good numbers and pretty nice inside. Better than the Cobalt I was looking at.

D1 for me

D2 for the wife

SIII gets the occasional indulgences of a DD on nice days.

Fuck gas mileage. My D1 and SIII are paid off and the D2 is almost paid off. If i was to buy a "gas miser" i would end up paying more just on a car payment alone than for what i do on my monthly gas bill plus payments for the D2.

That and with all the bark munchers up here driving their pompous ass Prius's i like to look like a knuckle dragger driving a gas hog.

Actually, I was laughing more at the "maybe I should get some thin friends" part! I too am a fan of the zippy little car. I used to have a Hyundai Tiburon GT - 6spd manual transmission, TORQUEY V6, and I never tested it, but I'm pretty sure that thing would do 150 - I took it up to 120 and it wanted to keep going. Best cornering front wheel drive car I have EVER had. Loads of grip. Comfy inside too, and a nice ride quality. Proper good car. TG even gave it the thumbs up.

You should hear them rave about the Ford Focus ST...

109 is my DD when it isn't having carb issues. Otherwise it is the RRC. Wifey drives a Benz. I hate that car. Too small. Feels like I am driving a go-cart.

But, like gunny, everything is paid off. Why become a slave to debt just to drive something with better mpg. Maybe if I was commuting a long way but 25 miles RT? Yeah, treehuggers can suck my ass.

I'm the same way, it's not worth it to add a payment to get better gas mileage. Just not economically sound to me.
