Holy shit! I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters UK '80 to '82. The 81st TFW had four FOLs in Germany Alhorn, Norvenich, Leipien, and Sembach. We used to rotate our A10s in and out of the FOLs. I was a crew chief in those days. I remember exercises at Sembach with the Canadian 101s. You guys would mock bomb us. Oh the "good ole days" of wearing chem gear and doing combat turns!

Cheers,

Mike

The drills where the best, you got to have some fun, that and W scrambles, at night when it was - 40 C. Ohh lets not forget the drinking games... :)

Carrier landings ... I think the Bonaventure was still sailing in '78, only moths and flys could land on that. That must be quite a rush, especially at night. Talk about adrenaline rush!! I had enough landing the Wonder, in a cross wind, let alone a carries landing at night in rough seas.

Crud, no, do not know what that was

The "carrier landings" I was referring to were the ones at the "club" when you lined up some tables end to end, covered them with beer, and had your buddies sling you down 'em on your belly LOL!

Crud is played on a billiard table but without cues and you're allowed to body block your oponent.

Mike, Talk about coincidences. I was stationed at Alconbury in 81-82, part of the 10th CSG/10 TRW, where most of my buddies were part of the 527 TFTAS. I'm sure it moved to Bentwaters in 83 or 84, right around the time of Able Archer...hee hee hee. I sure enjoyed my time in Britian. I got to go watch the Warthogs have some fun in the North Sea one weekend, doing some TAC eval excersises. Man, those things were awesome. :patriot:

I just made a 'claymation' KW figure complete with a purple pith helmet. It keeps drooping over before I can take a picture.

I said IP ban Canada.
Mike, I'm glad your interaction with members of the Canadian military have been positive and I'm sure people of the same caliber feel a certain comraderie the world over. I can alute anyone one in any military.
That being said, in my trips to work inside the Canadian border I have not heard such positive things about the military, the United States, our president or Americans in general.
I have been asked how many civilians our military has killed that particular week, (Ironic as this was a week after the Canadian air force inadvertently bombed an Afgani wedding party), and that we are only there to take thier oil.
I would love to say this was an isolated incident from one or two individuals but unfortunately I can't. This was mainly in the Toronto area so maybe that's a hot bed of left wing idiocy like we get in the states, I don't know.
I will say that when some moron says with a sneer on his face and a demeaning manor in his voice, "So you're from the States ehh..." followed by some inane comment about our politics or policies it makes my skin crawl.
Now here is where I'll disagree with Dan on one point. I found the French Canadians to be a much friendlier lot then those on the other side of the Quebec border.
So when I hear the elitists comments about my country I usually just smile and nod because the customer might be a fucking moron who doesn't know anything about the world outside his little socialist collective, but until he makes that last payment, he's right.

Why is he wearing a life vest in this photo?
I wonder if that picture of him was taken at MAR and the vest denotes that he was a MAR armed marshall. I'm not offended by the average Canadian; however, I don't think they should be allowed to brandish firearms while here.

Unfortunately there are morons in every country, and I understand what you are saying! In my days only my immediate family knew I was in the RCAF. Military was not well looked upon, and this from your own!

Sorry you had a rough time with this, this is not the Canadian way!

Funny you should say that ! CCW is available to Canadians in several states!
