What is the best way to find a 94-96 D90 ST?

1) ebay - wow these are high priced or scams
2) autotrader, not much better
3) CL - scams?
4) dweb?
5) d-90.com?

I'm not looking for the perfect d90, something an avg person can afford and something that I can tool around in.

What is the best way to search? I'm just interested in how to find a "deal" or at least find one that isn't 40K from Scottsdale LR. (sorry if there is a scottsdale LR car dealer/owner here.)

Well there is no 96 NAS d90, so you wont have much finding luck with that!

ebay/d-90 source are you best bets I believe... you can look around at dealerships, etc.. to see what they have.. also landroverexchange.com has some listings... just keep at it, and don't rush into it.. find one that is in good shape, without lots rust, etc.. set your price mark and start looking... hell, you may even want to post on the 'Wanted' section of d-90.com

I got mine from d-90.com after lots of ebay searching (dealers in sofla wanted like 45k). I think it's the best resource for purchasing a well cared for 90 at a reasonable price, and if you just so happen to buy a rotten one then it's a great resource for help just like discoweb for your disco.

I think the correct answer is to spend loads of time on D90 and learn everything you can, so that you can then evaluate all for sale defenders from any source.

I found mine locally, but wouldn't have known what to look for if not for hours spent on D-90.com.

Thanks for the tips..

Typos on 96.. meant 97.

I wanted one since before I was driving. I always thought that once they were a few years old I would be able to afford one. After finally graduating college and getting a job those damn things never went down and just seem to be climbing!

Perseverance seems to be the common thread here.
I'll see what I can do and maybe all this searching will just convince me otherwise.

Thanks again.

D-90.com.

Search for what to look for when buying. There are several threads on it.

They are still expensive because they are still relatively scarce.

Call Doug? at dividing creek rovers and discuss importing one when they become eligible. Might find a nice one with a 200 tdi in your price range. Not exactly an NAS but non of the hassles either...

Speaking as a true bottom feeder, that doesn't make sense. if you want an NAS defender there are plenty out there. if you want a non NAS there are quite a few available for a wide variety of prices and condition. Just because I don't want an over priced defender does not mean I don't want a defender. It just means I have to jump through more hoops to get one. There is a "buy it now" market and there is a DIY market.

What hassles are specific to NAS Defenders? Limited numbers?

If someone wants a Defender, there are many of them out there. If a person doesn't want to pay what the current market has set the price as, they don't really want one.

Parts availability for one. For example, the NAS outer wings aren't currently being produced and the side marker hole for RoW is further back. Several other items subject to wear are nearly impossible to get. SD doesn't have any interest in nor currently produce the cages as well. Try finding a tub.

SO yes, limited numbers are precluding LR from producing certain NAS specific items.

So it's a hassle if you want to keep things OEM for certain items. It's also a used truck. So it's a hassle IMO if you're paying way to much for wear and tear to begin with. Finally, most are getting long in the tooth. Rust, major services..... All hassles in comparison to market price.

Market price has no correlation to "wanting one". You can wheel and deal on them just like any other used vehicle. I waited till I found the D I wanted and got it for less than ask.

Bingo.

Personally, with the average age of the D population, might be better to buy a project, either domestic or import. Build to suit.

OK, you've got a point. If a person wants to try to keep one original, those things would certainly be a factor, but might also be part of the challenge!

I suppose if I wanted one and could afford to have one, I'd have a different attitude. I'd much rather have a pieced together Series body on a coiler chassis.

It gets old quick. Trust me.

A real challenge is finding rare series parts.

Why the coils? Just throw a frame on that old Blue SWB and start enjoying it. Upgrade as it needs it.

You may want to try LRX
http://www.landroverexchange.com/

Britrover is in Pompano Beach FL. Not sure if that's close to you in Florida
pricey but they have a couple of them there to look at
http://www.britrover.com/home.htm

I would really narrow down your search to exactly what you are looking for then go from there.

Good luck

I second...
Britrover and D-90.com.
Defender market seems flat now. Prices may be more easy to swallow right now.

Don't need to wreck for it to be an issue. Parts subject to wear and tear are becoming scarce as time goes by. And if George doesn't have them then they are going to run an arm and a leg from RN.

My 97 Bulkhead was starting to rust. They don't make NAS specific bulkheads anymore. Once they are gone they are gone.
