Your truck won't control road conditions, specially when icey. Its a heavy vehicle, so stopping may be harder, but as always with every vehicle... depends on the road condition. You could have the best tires in the world, but if on ice, they're not going to stop you.

Might be you, but most likely it's down to your tires. Have absolutely no trouble in snow. Last night we got 6 inches of snow and ice, and the truck drove amazing as usual. Stopped on a dime, and it accelerated like it was still dry out. I actually like it when it snows, cause it is the only time I can actually pass people!

X 3 my Disco is great in snow. I went with a Toyota Tacoma, and a Jeep in NV, places they had problems I went right through the first time.

Have you disabled your ABS? The problem with mine is that it will work when it's not suppose to.
x2 on that. I just disabled my ABS last week and I went out and tested the truck in the 2 inches of snow we got last night. It stops so much better even if I keep the tires locked up.

I had a 99 D1 in Montreal till 2003, just great in snow, for tires I had the Bizzaks, just superb on ice. Drove the Disco to Baie James in winter, there is a 300km stretch which is lterally ice covered by snow. No problem.

Your driving habits need to be different in snow and ice, the truck is not going to do the thinking for you.

Also this is where I love to have my ABS in tiptop shape.

Lucky bastards.... I'm going to have to wait until next Christmas when I head up to my inlaws in PA for a chance to drive in snow... I'm starting to pray now for a blizzard starting on Dec 23 2008 so I get to rough the elements during the roadtrip. I'm heading out to Tahoe next week for some skiing... but will be in a rental.

If there is snow in the yard there are Rover tracks in the yard. Then there are Rover tracks out on the street for the snow plow to follow. Then there are Rover tracks where the snowplow won't go.

Damn I wish it would freeze better so I could go highlift myself trough a frozen creek and make some good tracks.

D1's rock in snow...no other way to look at it.

if you think yours has issues its either your tires or your driving style.

on snow covered roads the CDL will cut your braking distance by alot...but if your locking tires at all you need to work on your driving skills.

I have been nothing but impressed with how my D1 acts in the snow. I drove it 60 miles on xmas night in a snowstorm and thought everyone else on the highway was just being extra cautious...stopped and got out...and promptly fell on my a$$ on the ice.

Excellent winter vehicle.

What kind of tires are they? I've got Dunlop Radial Rovers that already have 10,000 miles on them and they work just fine in the snow.

Just bought my truck about a month ago, came from down south. Have done no mods to it at all, even have the Toyo tires that came the truck. No issues at all in the snow, my D1 is fantastic in snow and ice. If your having issues, it may be down to how your driving.
