I left my 96 Disco sitting too long and it's acting up.

I did the head gaskets, all hoses, plugs, and wires about a year ago.

The truck hesitates to start. After four or five tries, it will start.

The truck will idle smooth. If any throttle is applied it will sputter, backfire and dies.

I've read that this is common and that the ECU might have water in the connectors. I checked and they are dry.

Any suggestion?

Sorry for the late response...
Mass Air Flow sensor?
I need to see how I can check that, because I have no MIL codes. I'll try cleaning it with the CRC MAF cleaner.
Power to the pump when key first turned on?
I was not able to hear it running and didn't check for voltage.

I went ahead and ordered the E3270 non-Rover fuel pump and am waiting to get it.

The interesting thing is that yesterday I went to start the truck for shits and giggles... Guess what, the motha trucka started on the first crank.

The truck idled smooth, applied throttle it did sputter, backfired and died. Cranked it again and started right away. I let the truck run for 15-20 and idled fine.

I didn't have my tools with me to check fuel pressure or voltages. :banghead:
