I was going to ask these questions in Terry's thread, but decided not to hijack it...
Does anyone know whether a D1 Front Drive Shaft is fundamentally the same as one from a D2? Are they or any of their component parts interchangeable? (i.e.- ujoints, flanges, the double cardon joint, etc)
Anyway, looking at the picture posted in this earlier thread it looks like the DC joint has a cover over what I'm hoping is a zerk used for greasing the centering ball on the D1 shaft.
Here's why I ask...My D2 doesn't have any way to grease the centering ball, so although I've rebuilt the FrDS I either have to pull it to grease the ball, or bite the bullet get another DS with the right fittings.
If I can source the parts at a relatively cheap price, it might be worth it to just replace the double cardon with one I could easily grease the cantering ball on. If the D1 FrDS has the parts I should be able to get them easily and cheaply.
Otherwise I have to decide whether the effort of pulling the DS to grease the ball is enough of a PITA to justify buying one of the upgraded shafts from elsewhere (i.e.- TW or GBR).
Since I'm planning on doing a 2"+ lift the new TW FrDS might just be the way to go, but even so, I'd still like to have the option of using the current one as back up...
