Frankly, I don't know why anyone would want to perform this modification.

There are circumstances where it's desirable to have the ability to disable ETC like when you start your truck with CDL locked.

I agree with Craig, why would you want to, keep it like it is and you have the best of both worlds.

My issue is that my handle to lock the CD is under the truck. If I have it locked, then turn off the truck, when I restart it, the abs/etc is disabled. What I have to do, if I am going to turn off the truck, is to climb under it, unlock it, start it, and climb back under to relock it. It is kind of a sloppy pain in the a$$ if I have been in the mud all day.
Why do you want your etc disabled when you have your CD locked?
Also, this mod doesn't remove any capability, it just gives the driver the control, instead of allowing the computer to automatically disable the etc/abs.

There are places where having CDL only is desirable. I went to Pismo Beach a couple of weekends ago and did some sand driving. I tried all configurations and the one that worked best was CDL only. ETC will rob you of some momentum, which in some cases is not desirable, such as in sand. Also, it may be desirable in some hairy down hill situations to not have ABS on. Take that last statement with a grain of salt, as I have never had a problem with the DII ABS system slipping on me, but some other people disable their ABS in those situations, and its nice to have the option.

Instead ot trying to mod the ETC/CDL switches, why not try one of the in-cab CDL shifter solutions. I did mine with a D1 shifter for $150 (looks stock still) and others have gone the solenoid route and the DII 2004 shifter may be available on the market at some time in the near(?) future.

That looks pretty clean, Roverdude, but I can't justify $233 for a cable..

Bigred, cleanliness is proportional to price. If you think RoverDude's Dongle is clean at $233, then you probably don't want to know the cost of 2004 D2 CDL shifter, which is cleaner than anything else available.

I'm pretty sure it's the same guy Kyle. I don't know if he got on your nerves or not, but I remember him was pimpin his CDL mod on the old Dweb too. I think I saw on the SCLR board he works for LR in SoCal somewhere.

I don't particularly care for his design. I'm sure it works great but I wouldn't want that 60-70's looking "choke" knob sticking out of my dash anywhere. I would definately go with the DI linkage as best bang for the buck.

CDL cable options

I have been thinking about installing the cable "activated" CDL but I agree with one of the post about having the '60's "choke knob" on the dash. I think the best option is to use the DI set up, but I am looking for something easier. Tracking down the DI linkage (& making sure it has all the correct parts) and modification time, especially on a daily driver, is the root cause of my hesitation.

I thought I saw a version sometime ago that had the knob located in the armrest console. Does anyone know of problems involved with relocating the knob? Limitations of the cable length, cable routing, etc.?
