Roverdude's CDL is a clean alternative.
BigRed, this would've alleviated the need to get out of your Rover to engage CDL.

I agree that the knob looks a little out of place on the dash, like the previous poster said but maybe you can mount it in the center console?

Roverdude, can we mount them there?
Is your CDL installed inside any vehicle that can been seen at your work? Do you have better pics of the CDL?

How much is the DI linkage mod? This will definately dictate which way I go.

The D1 shifter cost me $150, from Rover Cannibal, with all the hardware included. I spent $20 more on a decent rivet gun. It took me about 6 hours to install, but this was the first time I had taken the center console apart, and took it pretty slow so as not to dick up any breakable plastic goodies. Don't let the D1 shifter scare you, the writeup on Expeditoin Exchange is pretty good, and step by step.

The only other attractive alternatives, to my mind is the solenoid difflok, which has the down side that it is electric (electric bad) or the '04 DII option, which is probably a bit spendy, thought the best looking and operating option. The "air plane" quality cable, though it probably works fine, messes with the stock look of the rig, which IMO makes it a no sell.
