DII intermittant no start

This is the most frustrating thing. Lately I have been noticing my disco taking longer to start than normal ie, cranking too long before firing. When cold it starts up just fine. if I try to start it up when hot SOMETIMES it will crank and crank and not fire. If I keep at it, it will usually fire up after a few minutes. It is also worth noting that it just died the other day, but restarted fine.

The CEL is flashing when it wont start while cranking.

There are no codes present in the diagnostic.

Truck runs great, but Im afraid to drive it because I dont want to be left stranded.

I have cleaned and replaced all grounds and had the batt and alternator checked.

please advise me.

Sorry,

It is a 99 Discovery II

Mash down on the gas while driving? Or while cranking? Could running a can of seafoam through the system help?

Thanks for the replies. I think ill try to track down a crank position sensor tomorrow, and see if that helps.

I was thinking that all along but was hesitant to start throwing parts at it. I will report back with what happens.

crank sensor, or cam sensor maybe? check the crank sensor plug for oil or water contamination.

I agree. This happened with my wifes 03 Disco. The crank sensor is the only sensor that will not throw a code. It always started fine when cold but would sometimes not start hot, let it cool and it would start.

good luck dude.
