I checked it out..... looks like a decent very low base model. How well can you still get updated maps for it? Any ideas?

I suppose it would work fine for basic travel though with the base mapping? How old is the unit overall - IE how outdated is the base map?

Sorry for all the questions, I know it's cheap @ $70 - but I'd rather spend much more if it's just going to piss me off with being too old. :D

I've had the unit for a couple of years now. It very rarely did not show a road that I knew was there, though I used it primary for off-roading. I really like the tracks feature, which keeps track of where you went, time, speed, altitude, etc. Then you can upload it back to your computer and see your progress on a map. I think you can get real fancy and overlay these tracks onto 3D maps, but I never looked into it.

As for streets, it will give you turn by turn directions via the screen. We used it on all our vacations and camping trips. The best part was knowing exactly when you will arrive, or where the closest food is. I know during the time I had it, I downloaded a map update or two, but I couldn't tell you how recent those are.
