My 1994 D1 is leaking coolant on the floor and my suspicion was the heater core. I tried to remove it and I'm getting a hard time pullling it out. Any thought? Thanks in advanced. George :(

Pour some gasoline on the floor where the coolant is and throw a match in it. The heater core is the reason I got rid of my 94 and now have a 99. I would much rather swap out the engine before replacing the heater core.

Sorry for that, I sympathize. What a horrible job.

Before completely removing the heater core, check to be sure the leak isn't from the O-rings where the aluminum pipes meet the core itself.

Removal of the heater core requires near-complete disassembly of the dash panels. Book time for the job is 4.6 hours-another fantasy number.

If book time is only 4.6 hours, take it to the dealer and have them do it. Even at $100 per hour, $500 is a pittance compared to the scraped knuckles, stress and frustration of doing it yourself, and then hoping you did it right. Let the dealer worry (read: warranty) about it.

I agree with Alex, I did it myself on my '00 D2. I managed to do it without completely disassembling the dash, or disconnecting the A/C tubes but it still took me hours, and if I had to do it again, I'd pay the dealer to do it. I bled a lot, and getting those god damned o-rings and clamps ligned up perfectly is maddening. Must have taken me a dozen attempts.
