I've looking around for a new to me disco and cam accross this one on autotrader.com

Comments are welcome....seems to be a solid rover although $10500 sounds wee bit steep.

That's a neat storage box. I'd love to have a storage drawer in my truck. Interesting that the cargo bin lid is removed. I just might give that a try, it might make things easier to reach.

you'd have much more fun buying a stock disco and building it for the same price.

and whatever cost 15 grand, you dont need.

you can buy a used dissco for 5 grand, and then 5 grand in accessories and you would have one fucking capable truck.

I think a good general rule is to buya truck that has not been modified at all. Because when you go to modify it you will have the opportunity to build to suit your driving style. And normaly if a truck has been heavely modified like this one should be if he dropped $15K on upgrades it probaly was rode hard and put away wet. Mechanic owned or not things will go wrong with that truck. That is to be expected though wether you do it yourself or buy it like that

RTE Front and Rea bumpers
Warn winch
GBR Rear axles
I'm betting a rear locker
3" springs
BFG tires, maybe 33's??
HD drag link, and probably tie rod, too
104k miles is good
I'm also betting with the 3" springs he has the corrected front links
SS Brake lines

The truck mat be worth 5k, alone. He has some money tied up in the truck for sure. If you were going to build a truck like this, 10k is fair. It's not as nice as Bill Bretridge's old truck by a long shot, but it's a decent trail ready truck (If it runs).

I have found mechanic owned cars are usually the worst maintained EVER. At least soccer moms will run the damn thing through the Jiffy Lube every couple of months. Mechanics think they are gonna save the money and do the work themselves...but end up so busy fixing everyone else's shit that their own car is the last to ever get any lovin' by Daddy Snap-On. So when someone tries to pump up an ad by putting "mechanic owned" as a so called "bonus", I run like hell.

I think you guys are being a little hard. I'll tell you what, if I was going to sell my truck i wouldn't let it go for blue book. Although I'm not selling my truck so who knows what someone would pay for it. Bottom line, parts aren't free.

LOL, my Disco's name is Pinnochio... Gepeto was a cobbler, wasn't he? Poor Pinnochio doesn't even have four tires that match and I couldn't tell you the last time the oil was changed.

My Range Rover will sometime soon show up on ebay for about half the book value-but it does need head gaskets.

All i'm saying is that everytime a modded disco is for sale everybody automatically assumes it's too high a price. What's your truck worth to you? PT you don't count. LOL

my 96 with NATOs, ARB bumper, custom rear bumper, sliders, 265s, 110K, RTE 3" springs, OME shocks and the usual is worth about $3500. that is what i would expect to get for it if i wanted to sell it. it will eventually become a parts truck. in about a year.

yeah its one thing to have a built truck but that one looks beat.

i sold my truck highly modified and i only got blue book plus a little half the value of the parts.

figure what the price for used parts? you gould built that truck with fresh , brand new stuff for the price.
