I've never had a problem with my fuel filters so never really bothered to really identify the fitting type.
I know they are M16 x 1.5 with an 'O' ring, but are they some sort of flare, ORB, or what?

Often referred to as "Metric Bump".

Remove the crimp ferrule, beneath it, you'll find a hose barb. Obtain a fuel filter with 5/16" hose barbs, some fuel line, four clamps and Bob's your uncle!

That's what I've done on all my Rovers. Less expensive and easier to find filters. No more problems with corroded connections either.

The OE filter, or at least the Wix one I use, has a 4 micron rating. The barb push on hose filters appear to be anywhere from 20-150 micron. At least the ones I've checked are.

Never Seez on the threads prevents any rust issues.

Agreed. What originally led me to do the barbed filter mod is that every Rover I've bought had permanently seized connections due to being right in the path of road salt spray. Was a lot easier just to install the barbed ones than to replace the fuel lines in order to use the factory setup. You're in the South though, so probably no such problem there.
