Yaesu 857D and a VX-6, Diamond antennas. Still haven't rigged up an HF mount/antenna. One of these days...

How do you like the mobile setup? I have a VX-7 for on the ground btw... the 8 looks pretty nice too.

Tht's what I use with the FC-40 tuner and a Chamleon V2 antenna. I have a V1 for when I'm parked. http://www.chameleonantenna.com/

Anything you would change with the current setup? Although I have gotten my license a while back, never really looked into the comm gear, but am itching to go the 857D route now.

No, but when the zombies come and take out 90% of the population, I'll be able to pick up Will Smiths signal from the end of the pier.

No complaints. I'm not a hard-core, been-a-ham-since-I-was-8 guy so I can't really give you comparisons to anything else. It lets me hear who/what I want to hear and talk to whomever/whenever I want. The little pocket guides you can buy are nice because once I set up the memory presets for the freq & power I wanted, it's easy to forget which menu number gets me back to certain features which I may wish to change/adjust. The 857 certainly has more features and abilities than I'll be using for some time to come. But that's why I went with it - room to grow.

I have the face mounted in the sunroof switch location (D1 SD) and the main unit under the drivers seat. The NR770 antenna is mounted on a K9000 motorized mount, which is well worth the $ and set-up for use on trails and around town.

Yeah, I looked at the VX-8's at Hamvention last year. They are nice.

Bender, you should get the ATAS for your 857.

RBBailey, the little excitement ham talk has to offer is about what kind radio and antenna setup we run, and we covered that already. aside from that, we can talk QSL card collection if you wish... and there, the few I have are from guys that were accidental contacts. LOL

Walter, stick to bacon.

Yeah, but those things are fugly.

Though I'll take a better look at them when finally I look into mounting HF.

This is what I want in my truck:

T2-301

APRS tracker with embedded 5W 2m radio.

Well this fucking sucks.

I ordered a T2-301 and a bunch of other shit from Argent Data--about $400 worth--and some fucking scumbag stole the box (along with a bunch of other mail) from my mailbox yesterday.

I'm going to catch this fucker. I have a BigRedBee 2-meter tracker on its way and I'm debating on building it into a decoy cardboard box and seeing if it will get stolen so I can track him. The BRB is a $300 device, though, and it would suck to lose it.

Anybody ever caught a mail thief?

Man that sucks, hope you get him. Put in a decoy package, weighted but with nothing important in it, see if he goes for it. Caught a little kid once in the old neighborhood I used to rent in. Little fucker stole my gf's (at the time) Valentine's day present from my door.
