Hello! Love to fish & hunt! But when I take all 3 of my sons in the Rover we have a hard time w/fishing poles staying put! Anyone have a "brilliant" storage solution? Thank You, LRW.

I haven't done it in the Rover, but ceiling storage has always worked well for me. You can put a strap between the "oh shit" handles in the back seat and another one in the very back to hold them up against the ceiling. I don't know what's in the very back to attach it too since I haven't looked though.

In a pinch, I've used wire ties to tie up poles using both "oh shit" handles on the passenger side. Done it with one piece rods and tubes for fly rods.

The ceiling definately sems like the place to put em. Outside the truck is too iffy unless you are staying on pavement or they are enclosed in tubes. Since I hunt and fish and run into the same issues I have been thinking about making something myself , some sort of mount system for either rack or inside.

If you wanted them on the outside of the truck. One could get ahold of some large diameter PVC piping get some threaded fittings, paint! and affix it to the roof rack. Cheap and water proof.

Yeah , I thought about that but then you have to strip the reels off. Its nice to have a no fuss no muss deal on the roof inside where you can just stick em in and be done with it.. All that room up there not being used..............

I have a roll of velcro "tape" I bought at The HoDePo that I carry backpacking and stuff. Whenever I need to I cut a strip to length and voila...it's like having reusable zip ties. This is how I came up with my fish pole storage system. Just strapped 'em along the roof rack outside 'cause I prefer not to hear 'em rattle as we bounce down the trail to the stream.

my rods are 6' and 7' footers, I put the tips into the map storage pockets above the sunvisors, and in the back i have a bunge cord that hooks between the rails of the rear sunroof. there is a metal lip just behind the beauty trim that works well to secure the cord too. That set up keeps them tight to the roof. when i went just to the oh shit handles the rods just bounced all over the place.
i went all over Bass Pro shops looking for hold downs and saw nothing that qualified as the perfect solution, so far my bunge in the sunroof gets it done.

Zach has a good idea about PVC. I worked for a surveryor and that is how we stored our rods for sights. Just screwed off the end of the pipe.

on my yakima rack..

I have some of their accesories that carry kayaking paddles: they are a u shaped piece with a strap that closes off the top (open) end, clamps to the round cross bars..
I use this for carrying long skinny stuff, and have also used used it for the high lift.
Can't remember what they are called.

If you use the PVC version make sure to put a foam of some sort on each end. Ths will prevent damage to the tips. I had a problem with condensation. Kyle's right it is a pain in the ass to strip the reel.

Transporting Rods

Do you have a roof rack?? If so you can use 4 inch PVC pipe. Attache pipe to roof rack and you can transport poles on roof rack and they will be protected. Use screw on end caps to seal PVC pipe.
