Don't Believe It...

After reading post after post after post after post about the simple snap-on-plug-in upgrade of a D2 mirror in a D1 I decided to update my wonderful caramel colored mirror for a newer one. The idea being that I could actually use the mirror.

So I picked up a D2 rear view from Tarheel. Today the upper console was removed to complete this simple swap and here is what I found.

D1 plug on the left. D2 on the right.

Yep, those fit right together. And the wires are all different colors. Yay!! Maybe someone who has done this can share the color-color arrangement. The electrical manual PDF I have it all garbled and I can't discern the wire colors.

Now it may be that I got the wrong end of the wires here, or even that the rest is missing.

I suspect there may be some small number of trucks where the plugs match but...

Don't Believe It.:smilelol:

I did this swap a few months ago. It's not plug-and-play but it's damned close.

I guessed lucky on the wires and didn't short anything out.

It really is fairly simple. Cut and splice the wires. I did one on my D1 several years ago and still looks and works great. Plus I have a compass and homelink as an added bonus.

Yeah, I was just annoyed because of the splice. No worries. :)

But then, I have to change it around. I thought those wire pairs would work but no joy. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

This could turn out to be a really short thread. I don't remember hearing anything that is plug-and-play interchangeable between a D1 & D2.

tires.....
gas.....
washer fluid....
cdl lever....
wiper arms....

those should all interchange

Tires might, but wheels won't, so those don't qualify by his standards. Since splicing 3 wires disqualified the mirror swap. I'm sure having to dismount and mount tires would not qualify as a direct swap. :D

The thread had two points:

1) Humor
2) Humor

I suppose if there was a third point it would be for folks to comment on the "plug-n-play" descriptions they have read and how the reality differs. Maybe even vent a little in the process. :)

the full length under hood rubber seals on a D2 fit a D1. I'm not sure if its an upgrade, but the hood seems to flutter a little less with them.
