Door lock not always working?

Hey guys,

My drives side door lock is acting funny. It does not go up or down when using the remote key, or the lock button in the car. Sometimes it works by the lock button in the car when the car is on, but never when it is off.

I can unlock and lock the door with the key directly, but it seems like it might be a little stiff.

What could be wrong? Can I fix this my self?

D1 or D2 ? ?

D2 door lock actuators are notoriously finicky..

This is on a D2.

They seem to work now and then, just not always. It almost seems like they affect the other locks at the same time too. Like they all feel lazy when the lock, and not as snappy as they were. I just took the car in for my 30k work (which I was out of pocket) and from my understanding that the 30k service covered lubing locks and such.

How do i go about lubing locks?

Ok, so I just checked it again. It feels like the lock tries to lock and unlock, but it wont. It alsmo seem that i have to put more presure on the lock when locking it by hand.

How do I lube this sucker? What type of lube?

Driver's side door, quite a process to even remove the actuator.. most people just replace them since they are german engineered little marvels that need only 1-2 specks of dirt to jamb up..

I've replaced my driver's side one and to look at it, it reminds me of a cuckoo clock.. levers and stuff everywhere... they're a single unit that "handles" all the inputs, and the actual latch itself...

Rave CD has instructions to get it off.. you can try to lube it and replace it... some sort of lithium grease I suppose..

From searching some euro forums, there is a spring fix for the D1 style--I have 3 of 5 doors not unlocking (they all lock) and I am hoping there is some sort of replaceable stronger spring that I can use--has anyone heard of this for the DII?

If you look on ebay.com, you'll see those little springs that come in single to 5 pack. It says that they are designed for D1s, and also mention that if you have a D2, to contact them.
