just smear a little teflon grease, the stuff you use on wheel bearings on the inside of your rim, does a great job wont wash away and assures you of anti galling

Who keeps tires as long as most keep their airbags and expect them to work as long and as well? I've never even tried to use the same tires for more than ten years.
... and yet we're bitching about how unreliable EAS is while keeping 10-15 years' old airbags around!

So you don't even know how to maintain your tires and wheels, El Dudorino...

hahaha....or His Dudness if your not into the whole brevity thing. pete, i think you see and recognize the point. it is okay that the analogy was inaccurate.

Paul, to each his/her own.
Southwestern environment is good for metals, and equally bad for rubber - still, you need to replace the airbags probably no more often than 5-7 years apart. People get bored with their vehicles in less time than that - what that means is when you buy a used Rover, just replace the bags, and they will serve you well until you get bored.

The cost of airbags - somebody mentioned a source of the rubber itself about $80 apiece. Arnott's brand new bags are about $300 a pair - that's close to my monthly insurance premium.

I am not selling coils or airbags, neither I am paid for car work - so I don't have any vested interest in this discussion, one way or another. But, as a matter of experience, I have converted my LWB to coils, went through three different sets of coils, and back to airbags (in the rear). For the same reason I want to install RRC bags in the rear of my Disco.

shouldn't we all be working right now?

pete, you are right, it is highly subjective. it does depend on intended usage and all that shit that has already been said by so many before us. however, i would really like to tag along with someone wheeling, truly wheeling, a EAS suspended P38. just to see how it performs.

Do Rubicon, Pritchett, and Golden Spike sound okay in your book?

Don't think so Peter. It's about the same for me USAA, 4 cars, 3 with full collision/comp, 1 with Liability/comp only, and a male teenage driver on the one w/o collision.

On second thought, maybe we're all getting screwed!

I've not had good luck putting new airbags on the horns. It's a bitch to roll the bag over the ridges on the horns. It can be done, but it's not as easy as slapping an entire assembly together.
obviously, it would be easier to just put in the entire assembly.
When you say "it's a bitch" to do it, does that mean "2 days of cursing and kicking things" or more like "an extra hour of messing with it"?

BTW, I've been rotating my airbags every 5000 miles, at the same time I rotate the tires, and now I have an EAS fault.
Should I convert to coils?
Do I have to rotate the coils, too?

Jim, how many times do I have to tell you, you don't have to change the position, just twist them :) (I wanted to stay away from this one, thanks Jim....)

PT, a little dish-soap and a twist, the new bags pop right on the old horns.

someone asked near the beginning of the thread if anyone had the GenIII's. yes, and I love them. (I started selling them AFTER I put a set on my p38.) Yes, I do have a vested interest in saying that, because I like them (and the EAS in general) even if I didn't I would still say I like the GenIII's and the EAS..

for the record, if anyone knows the EAS (all about it) it is Dennis at Rover Renovations. he knows his shit; look at the many previous threads regarding this very topic. i also like that he isnt simply trying to sell something to guys on here trying to fix a problem or get advice. (no sarcasm there either)

So that red P38A in the link I've posted have been to all of these trails, plus all that could be found in San Bernardino mountains and Anza-Borrego.
I don't know how many times the EAS has been repaired on this truck, but the owner never bitched about it and still keeps it.

yeah, i saw that pic. as i said, i would like to see it do those trails on a "regular" basis w/o repair as would be with a coil set up.
