Anyone know what I need to do to use a used engine ECU for a 1998 Disco?

That's what I thought... but it won't start, something about a security code? And local Land Rover dealer says it won't work

Why did you think you needed a new ECU? Was it flooded?

FWIW, I've used a 98 ECU on my 96, and, aside from minor differences in emission equipment, it worked just fine. I can go back and forth between the two.
And the reason I got this 98 ECU in the first place was the dealer who told me so. Turned out completely BS (but I wanted a spare ECU, anyway).

I replaced the ECU in a 96 D1 and it needed reset by the dealer. Cranked fine but wouldn't start 'till they reset it. YMMV

Has anyone had to replace the Engine ECU on a 1998 Disco? It seems that they are different...

It's plug and pray. Not plug and play.

Some GEMS ECU's may need immobilization reset if you are swapping it from one truck to another.
