Do you disconnect the harness from the ECU or just pull the wiring from the engine?

I usually just unplug everything on the engine and leave the harness in the truck. Your going to have to get the bracket and stuff out of your way so you can get at the knock sensor harness under the manifold. I know a guy who cut one of thos thinking he would just splice them back together.DON'T DO THAT. It's a shielded wire.

That is kind of the way I was leaning. I'm pulling the intake and all before I remove it and most of the wiring is up top anyway.

Which part?

I dont know if the 04 is different, but I was able to finagle it out without too much trouble and without disconnecting the oil cooler lines.

The part where you do all that shit to get it out.

Jeff, I thought about using cardboard, I have some triple layer stuff that should work well.

we removed the radiator on mine when we pulled it, but the last motor we pulled from an '04 we just put a thin piece of plywood behind the radiator. there was still plenty of room to fish the motor out and it was a hell of a lot easier that way

I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator any time I'm working near it. I have a piece cut that sticks way up over the top and fold over the front so I don't ever forget it. Those radiators are so damn fragile that if you dropped a 10mm socket and it bounces into it you will rupture one of the core tubes.
I don't take it out to do the engine. I do take the intake off so I can get the top bell housing bolts from up top side.

I don't remember not removing the radiator, but if Jeff says so I guess it's true.

Yeah, we talked about taking it out then decided it was a pain in the ass, so I just put the thick cardboard in front of it.
It softened the blows.

I unplug everything from the motor. I've never pulled a radiator to pull the motor. I only pull the plenum to access the upper bell housing bolts. It helps to remove the crank pulley and definitely the oil filter.

I'm pulling the top end anyway. I'm using some parts for the new motor.
