Ducati has one on order... So, Nate, when does it arrive?

The coolest part is that he'll WHEEL the thing..

He's never chickened out with his Disco- we'll see what we can coax him into trying.

by Freelander trail you mean the harder ones? The ones that the Discos were getting stuck on? Then yeah- those. It was fun running up and down those trails where all the Discos and Rangies had problems and the Freelanders just ran around no problem. :D
Why must you bait me into it every time?

Aside from that one incident, it went everywhere on that particular weekend. It doesn't drive so well on it's side. I'm not going to point out the other types that got stuck or rolled in one spot and claim they aren't capable because of that one incident.
We ran deep into log bridge to help recover two Discos and a Rangie- went past them through the deeper holes and came back through the spots where they were stuck. Some people just won't give cred. ;)

Anyway- when Nate gets his LR3 we'll take it out with my 04 DII and see what the difference in capability is stock vs. stock.

Stock vs. Stock, the LR3 will kick your ass. Throw in a locker on your 04 and then try it.

It probably will- but it'll be interesting to see anyway.
The LR3 looks far better in person than in the pictures, but I just couldn't love it enough to pay that much.

finally saw one in person at the sf car show. it's big and just doesn't have enough character. 75% of the exterior and 85% of the interior just doesn't feel and look any different than any other nicely optioned suv out there. the last half inside and out especially could be any other luxury suv. of course i didn't drive it, but to me it's missing something the discovery 1&2, range rover classic and current ranger rover, and the benz g500 have. from the reponse from the other people looking at the lr3 though, it will sell very well. there's nice space in there for families.

Saturday before last (just before I left for Pittsburgh for the week) I had gone back to Cookeville for Homecoming for the day, and found myself passing the Rover dealership in Knoxville on my way home.... decided to swing by and have a look at the thing in person.

I'm a Series Rover owner. I like my Rovers to be fixable by myself. I'm not a techno-luddite, I really like computers and gadgets, GPS and other toys, etc. But, when it comes to depending on something, I like it to be reliable. So, I really wasn't thinking that I was going to like the thing......

So, there it sits. Now, I have to admit, when the Disco went from the I to the II in '99, I didn't like the change in the looks, albeit subtle. But I've been diggin' the '03/'04 look, with the newer headlights. So, the front of the LR3 was fine. I agree w/ Ax, I miss the spare on the back.... thing is, it's at least under the floor and not eating cargo space, but, you still would have to unload everything out of the cargo area to get to the spare if you needed it. I do like the roof, though, the full-glass bit.

Tom threw me the keys, so Alex and I took it for a spin. Wow... the thing is almost twice the weight of my Subaru, and it is quicker. It felt solid. If felt substantial. It was comfortable.

Off the showroom floor, with the available electric locker in the rear, wow, that thing would be great for a stock vehicle. But, I can't quit thinkin' that for half the money you can get one of the last '04 Discos and put a locker in and go aobut the same, and will have less headaches once the things have 10 years of age on them..... those electrics are trick when they're working, but I jsut don't trust them to still be doing their thing trouble-free once the thing has 150k on it and is out-of-warranty.... and I'm just not going to spend that much on a vehicle. Now, if I had it, sure, there are some collectable vehicles that I'd gladly spend that much on.... but no, not for a daily driver, not for a familymobile, not for an off-road toy, not for something that I'd just drive then replace in four, six years or so...

If I had the money to blow, yeah, I'd put the wife in one, and then I could play with her Disco. But, that isn't gonna happen in the foreseeable future. I'll stick with getting the Series back on, er, off the road, and enjoy it, and continue to burn the commuter mileage up on the Roo....
