enough of reading and test driving

It's a week 4/week 5 build, which should put it delivered somewhere between late Feb and early March. We'll see what it can do, honestly the biggest thing I am struggling with it tires.

As of right now I see three options:
1. Order Goodyear MT/R from the UK in 255/55/19 (I'm sure shipping will suck)

2. Buy a set of 17" X5 rims and slap on some 265/70/17s. These are about 2" larger than stock, who knows if they will fit. Some random engineer at LR UK said they would...

3. Wait for some 19" AT/MTs in the US. That could be a long wait. Rover has such damn weird sizes.

I also need to convince some LR3 owner near Dave Lucas to offer up a sacrifice, as that thing is going to need some sliders...

I'll take the LR3 the same places I took the Disco, which is to say I'm not afraid to use it but I don't push the limits as far as some folks here. I am particularly interested to try it on some trails I have run in the D2. You should come to our rover club's inagural event, Steve--I suspect it will be spring, after the LR3 arrives. You can join Domke in the '04/LR3 tagteam  And Joe's Disco2 is well-modded to so it will be a good comparo.

I've already got new BFG KO's on order and looking at winch mounts etc. By spring, it should be at least a little modded.
We gotta be careful with the spring planning- the ROAV spring rally AND we are asking AOA to manage the W. VA Moonshine Run for us. Gonna be a busy spring.

Well I am certain AOA will have a decision by the time we get our sh|t together here in OH. We still have to get the legal issues sorted out, and the membership call out... The holidays are slowing us down a bit.

I have to watch vacation time, too, I have a boatload of time planned for next year and I'm not quite sure where it's all going to come from

Close, but no LR3

I was in the market for a new SUV last month. It was down to the BMW X5, Volvo X90 or the LR3.

If that LR3 had the alpine windows and a rear tire, I'd have one now. Instead, we have a new XC90 (on road only).

I couldn't bring myself to try talk the wife into a Land Rover just for the LR3. The LR3 looks like a $50K Ford Bronco II to me. Also, we have a 3 week old baby, and the wife liked all the Volvo safety crap.

So, I'm still driving my 99 DI. She got the Volvo.

If it's anything like the Yammie SHO V6, it should be a great motor..!

One of the main things to think about with the LR3 is that we don't know how to drive it, at least most of us. Take about 80% of how you approach different situations and throw it out of the window.

For many of us, I drive a 1960 Series II about 250 miles per week, all of the electronics are a bit intimidating. Especially when we must rely on it so heavily. Once you start to acclimate to the vehicle and it's differences, it really is amazing. The terrain response makes a great deal of difference, especially for a novice driver. When a seasoned driver gets in, and makes the technique adjustment, and makes use of some of the new tools, such as increasing or decreasing the hill descent control limits based upon your evaulation of the surface, you can really do some incredible driving, in stock tires!

I think that is the thing that is often missed, stock. This vehicle's on road performance is really stunning. Aside from what has been done to increase the off-road performance, it is the on-road performance that has you saying "this can't be a Land Rover."

While I can't argue at all about build quality and part durability, only time will answer that. If Mrs. Ratcliffe came in and said I want to replace the Discovery with the LR3, we would be making the purchase. And that damned Discovery is my second favorite Land Rover.

I bought my LR3 last Thursday. All I can say is what a nice vehicle.
