thats right kennith....ethanol is not the way to go! nor is hydrogen or biodiesel although biodiesel is a great "supplemental" fuel.

no no no...we need to be putting all effort into finding better ways to produce, store and utilize anti matter. something like .25 oz holds enough energy to carry a car 20 billion miles....thats what im talking about!

this shit is being made outside chicago in an underground lab. hydrogen molecules are accelerated and slammed into copper plates. for every 500k (or so) hydrogen molecules that hit the copper, one anti hydrogen molecule is created. anti matter must be stored in a vacuum in constant motion so that it does not come into contact with matter....KABOOM!

it is not feasible at this point...but research is being done....on a limited budget of course.

yes but Ethanol is an Oxygenated fuel and will burn more efficiently and completly then gas if an engine is set up correctly, it may be possibly to get similar or better mpg. not to mention ZERO (0) net CO2 emissions from ethanol.

I ran ethanol enhanced gasoline (10%) in my Z3 for years until I spent some time talking to a guy who does performance and racing work on BMWs. He said - I may get this wrong, but this is the essence of it - that the combustion of ethanol somehow confuses the knock sensor and actually causes the engine to run richer. He pointed to the black soot in my tailpipe as proof. They had track tested their E46 with both kinds of gas and the stopwatch showed the car slower on the ethanol enhanced fuel (and BMWs have adaptive ECUs that advance timing and lean out the mixture on higher octane fuels). Sure enough, I swore off the Ultra 94 and went back to 92 octane normal gasoline, and the car ran cleaner and stronger. The new exhaust system I had installed at that time is soot-free after two years, and the e-test results were actually improved.

Happy to have someone explain this to me in terms I can understand, but for now I avoid ethanol enhanced fuels like the plague. Hope this adds something to the conversation.

Burning more completely than gas does not mean you get better power, or better fuel efficiency. Like Mark Preston mentioned, ethanol's specific heat is about a third less than that of gasoline, so, tuned or not, you'll lose power (or burn more fuel to achieve the same power level).
ZERO CO2 emissions with ethanol is pure bullshit. I hope you meant to say CO, not CO2. Clean burning ethanol (C2H5OH) produces water and CO2, same as gasoline (mixture of octane and heptane).

must be some serious weed in Kentucky... very serious... Vacuum in constant motion - what a flight...
